Master Fencer: PPs and Scouting Report

The PPs for thoroughbreds racing and training in Japan, as can be expected, are different from what we find here in the United States. However, change is a good thing and a couple of clicks on the tabs leads to interesting data.

Master Fencer PPs

I recall a couple of years ago researching a colt named Epicharis. He was a big, strong, strappin' colt shipping in to run in the Belmont Stakes - I liked his chances. I recall information on him was difficult to find . . . I recall he trained indoors or under cover uphill on wood chips and raced on deep soft squeaky sand; shipped from Japan to Alaska via Chicago to NY ultimately he suffered a foot bruise training for the Belmont. Nice lookin' colt . . .

He was not even the top point getter on the Japanese leaderboard. He was 4th. The top 3 all declined so apparently they just kept going down the list until they found soneone with derby fever.

Way overmatched and the easiest toss I have seen in years.

Ran w/ the flow in both of his stakes.

Could only view the last two.

Last out, right hand turns, solid 2nd w/ flow closing into a pace collapse.

Two-back in the Hyancith? they went left-hand turns (US style) and he didn't change leads, but not sure that it will recur.

He's not a terrible horse. Could get the distance. Is pointed to the race. He's capable of running with the race flow, but would seem to need both a pace collapse and luck to hit the board.

He's a deep closer, and probably not a super talented one. The current Kentucky Derby favors tactical speed. I'd toss him from the win spot.
