Certainly wouldn't want to use something as bizarre as conventional dirt.

From Steven Crist's DRF article regarding Frank's new mystery surface, "In 2008, the last year for which the Jockey Club has collected statistics, there were exactly 62 Thoroughbred races in Austria, and there are 12 days of racing scheduled for Ebreichsdorf this year. Nor is it particularly reassuring that the surface is otherwise being used only for show jumping."

There is no question that some of the decision makers in Horse Racing are wackadoos.

Could be another multi million dollar mistake.

If he messes up with the sand idea...then what? SA can't afford to keep switching

really, I think he just made a bad choice of words.

if he had come out and said we are looking into a sand based track, this place would have rejoiced.. his choice of words is getting him flack.

Stronach on the Roger Stein show this morning.

http://www.rogerstein.com/radio/archive2.asp

Archived show up about 10:00 am pst

I defy anyone to listen to this interview and not conclude that Stronach is "not all there" (in my opinion)!

Stein is going nuts trying to pin him down.

Roger Stein asked him every way possible if they were going back to dirt and he couldn't give a straight answer. Unbelievable.

If Stronach can't lead, he should get out of the way.

I can't disagree with you. Unbelievable interview. I don't know what to think except to think that there is no hope for California racing.
