Lunatic Fringe.

He was there for Let It Be anyway. They would have broke up with or without him hanging around, but McCartney sure was pissed at him with his arrangement of The Long and Winding Road. Told him to never touch one of his songs ever again.

You can hear the scratch version on the anthology album. Lots of mistakes that Spector covered up. Had they released that version it wouldn’t have been a #1 song. The main problem with the orchestral version is that it overpowered the vocal.

Exactly. All the accolades don’t matter. He deserved to spend his remainder in jail.

Was a great producer, though. The OJ of the recording world.

I was surprised to read his net worth was over $60 million because of his 'music library'

He took over producing from George Martin for most cuts on Abbey Road and alienated Martin and when the boys hated what they ended up with they asked Martin to “fix it” he basically told them to shove it.

Yoko was in league with Spector and the Beatles were barely speaking to each other. Yoko was haunting the studio for years by then. She wanted Spector to produce everything after that. It was a mess.

Martin came back to do “Let it be” their last album but the animosity was bad. They made a pledge to put it all behind them and recorded the album. But that was the end........

I also have the Anthology set. I have a library of Beatles material that would take you a year to read and listen to, and I couldn't tell you if I've ever heard one way or the other if that cut that is on the Anthology set was McCartney's final. In my opinion, Spector's final product is better, but then I don't have the ear for music that Paul McCartney does. McCartney wasn't feeling good about the whole scene at that time and may have just reflexively lashed out, even though he's not the type to be happy with other people tinkering around with his stuff. Lennon let Spector in the door. Spector's stamp on Let It Be was none of Paul's doing.
