Who was the race caller at SA today (Sat 02/27)? I thought he was very good.

UK racing commentator and this weekend’s announcer at Santa Anita is David Fitzgerald.......Best caller by far.

Agreed, by far better then any racing announcer that has announced since Denman quit including Frank Mirahmadi and Michael Wrona.
This Fitzgerald is a world class announcer.

No doubt about it, lets hope that Keith Brackpool etc. give Mr. Fitzgerald serious consideration and not just make believe that they are trying out different announcers.
If this was put to a vote by the fans David Fitzgerald wouls win by a landslide.

we import everything else why not keep importing our racecallers....S.A. should put as much time and effort into attracting new owners and more horses to increase their field sizes, as they do in looking for and selecting a new announcer.....

With all the positive feedback in regards to David Fitzgerald after just one day of calling, it makes it an easy decision now for SA. And considering how much younger he is, would be surprised if they don't go with him.
May not be my first pick, but hard to argue it.

David Fitzgerald is easily the best one. Very clear and accurate and makes the calls exciting down the stretch (but does not overcall them like Mark Johnson). I like that he says the jockeys names as well, (Peter Aiello also does this) I always felt that the jockeys should be marketed better since horses come and go every year, and I think bringing them up during the running of the race does that.

I'm with the consensus here....Fitzgerald for me. I like him a lot.
I liked how he would throw some stats in his calls. He said something about "Forest Chatter attempting to extend his 5 race win streak" as they came down the stretch in the Sensational Star. Adds a bit to the excitement of the stretch run.

when I heard him yesterday I though he was in a different class than the last guest caller as well as the current priomary ones...very smooth and he was especially good at tracking the field and picking out the ones who were making up ground

I have heard only one so far that is qualified to do SA....Frank.
The rest are all far inferior to him.
Not that even he could get me to play SA...
...and it's DERBY Glass, not DARBY Glass. Minor league.

I do like Frank, too, but Fitzgerald just does it better for me. What do you like about Frank to make him your front runner?
A race caller won't make me play SA, either. I do like to listen to good race calls, though...

With all this positive feedback from fans about Fitzgerald, it's pretty much a lock he won't get the job...
