Where were you?
"The NASA family lost seven of its own on the morning of January 28, 1986, when a booster engine failed, causing the Shuttle Challenger to break apart just 73 seconds after launch."
I was in the Air Force on a convoy guarding Nukes that were en-route to be loaded on a B-52 when the news came down. We were not allowed to stop the Convoy once it started rolling. Our Commander pulled over and we all listened on the radio..........anyway.

It was later in the day in Grafenwoehr, Germany (where I was stationed at the time), and I heard the news on a TV in the building where I was getting ready to attend an introductory German language class. I immediately thought of where I had been when I heard about the Apollo 1 fire in 1967, and the risks that space travel still presented. And let's never forget the Columbia disaster, either.

I remember just getting out of college and getting ready to head to Hot Springs for a few weeks (remember Rare Brick and Rampage?) The Bears had just murdered the Patriots in the Super Bowl. It was about 20 below in Chicago and the Bears were going to have a big parade but needless to say, that was overshadowed.

I had the flu and stayed home from work. I turned on the TV and judging by the tone of the newcasters I immediately knew something terrible had happened.

three of us sat down at a bar for lunch (back then you could get away with drinking at noon time), and we sat in shock watching the TV images.

I was in the 3rd or 4th grade. We were watching it live on a television in our classroom, first thing in the morning.

In my dorm room at Abel Hall on the campus of the University of Nebraska. Won't ever forget that day, we were all in shock.

Working in SF, I remember one of the women who worked for me was listening to the radio when the news broke and she started to cry. Very tragic.

I was taking customers to lunch - we were supposed to meet our lab guy there and he was at the bar watching TV. I went to get him and he told me of the tragedy - we all sat at the bar and had liquid lunches and popcorn.

Junior High. They brought TVs into the rooms so we could all watch the teacher go into space.
