Haven't been to this one, but setting looks spectacular, and the architecture is beautiful, up there with Hialeah...

Fort Erie in its day. They called it little Saratoga. The landscaping both inside and out was magnificent, green and flowery. The grandstand was restored from the 19th century. The top Canadian horses and jockeys competed there during the 6 week summer meet. Northern Dancer broke his maiden there. And, if I recall correctly, the three infield lakes were called Win, Place, Show. Full fields, big time racing, a grandstand filled with screaming Canadians and Niagara Falls a short drive up the QEW.

Just curious, why Clonmel and Downpatrick? I've been to both and thought they were pretty ordinary. Did I miss something?

Haven't been to Killarney. What do I have to look forward to?

Another vote for Ft Erie. I raced there in the late 80's but have not been back since the slots went in. I live in Saratoga now and love the whole town, park and track. I have quite the picturesque jog each day. Where else can you own a modest home with a Sheik for a neighbor?

Only been to two tracks in my life, Belmont Park and the long gone Roosevelt Raceway (not very picturesque). I like Belmont. Did the breakfast at Belmont and took the trip through the stables. Very nice and HUGE place. Little trivia for you.The pine tree on their logo is over 300 years old and is near the paddock. I would like to make it to Saratoga and Santa Anita looks nice too.

Lots of legit posts in this thread. I could agree with many of them and have had the good fortune to have been to most. For me, its:

Arlington Park - Most ornate and visually appealing. The facility/grounds were spotless and well manicured.

Santa Anita - The backdrop of the San Gabriel's is second to none.

Hialeah
Santa Anita
Monmouth

From an old timer. In it's day Hialeah was, in my mind, everything a racetrack should be. It was stunningly beautiful. The great palm trees lining the entrance immediately took you away from the outside world. Hialeah was glamour, money, the mob, great horses, and degenerate bettors, all in one of the most beautiful settings in America. God I miss it.
