A suggestion to HANA and it's members

I have a sure-fire way to show HANA's clout, but it's not very glamorous..
After playing TVG's Showvivor, I saw my $20 starting bet get up to $299 after 7 bets.. Now Imagine if HANA members "bombarded" a weekday show pool with a similar $10 or $20 show bet for a "HANA SHOW of STRENGTH" ..A likely scenario could result in a Win Pool $25k, Place pool $13k, Show Pool..$30K! And that's for week one..let's say 40% hit their show bet(a low %, expectation-wise).
With the big show pool, those that cash could easily get $3 or more in week one. Week 2 those now have $30 or more to bet to show.. losers put a new $10-$20 in.
2nd weeks show pool could be $35K.. 40% hit their $30 show parley... $3 to show... Week 3 they have $45 or more to show.. $45K show pool.. in 7 weeks we could be chucking $100K or more in a "HANA SHOW POOL POWER PARLEY!".
Racing Media will want to know where the "HSPPP" Will strike next!
Tracks will love it, since we'll likely be spreading show bets around the field. Bettors will still be looking for a good payout, & the swelled show pools will provide it! In a way, HANA members will be helping other HANA members' payouts when they lose, & vice-versa.
THE BEST PART.. WE WILL HAVE VISUAL EVIDENCE OF OUR BETTING POWER, because it will SHOW ON THE TOTEBOARD!
I know I'm a broken record, but when we have to do research to see how much of an effect we're having on pools, we're not maximizing our visibility(IMHO)!
Please consider for a May strategy. Thanks for your time. GO HANA!- Bob Grant

Thanks, Bob.

We have had discussions about different pools and the current consensus seems to be we will have more overall impact if we allow people to bet the way they usually bet (aka the wagers they are prone to make). But we are certainly open to suggestions for future angles to take.

I put some money into the Hawthorne race 6 the other day, it was a race that i would normally not play. I would have bet more if i actually liked the race. I like that show pool idea, lets pick out a nice 5 horse field at Golden Gate to get the ball rolling.

I think the show idea is the best way to go about this. Eithor that or send a letter to track management letting them know what race hana is betting so they can see the impact this can have. I think track management is probably just thinking we had a slightly better then normal race / day. If we bombard a horse to show or a similar bet I think we would have more of an impact. just my cents.

Show pools

I understand that HANA does not want to intentionally cause a minus pool, and I like the consistency of regular pools, which are announced here on PA. My idea is to contact the track where the "Buycott" will be and request that the track designate "H.A.N.A." as part of thr name of the race for that week.
(H.A.N.A. Maiden Claimer; H.A.N.A. Stakes $50k). That request itself will serve notice that there will be a much bigger pool!

Finally some sanity surfaces among the helter-skelter, mish-mash. There has to be some payback to HANA from doing this beyond just going around the country and throwing money at some non-descript race. Good idea, Ken.

$100/$300 Alameda CO Ca fair sponsorship-

You can also call to see if they will give you free sponsorship in return for a "pool party" as many days as possible. I assume a H.A.N.A. named race title will be everywhere on the internet where the programs or betting are, and maybe a H.A.N.A. member can make it to the winner's circle for pr photo opportunities!! Let HANA know if you like the idea and are willing to donate ($5?) for at least the weekend dates. preferably an early race so Eastern Seaboarders can see it!! Or maybe a feature, whatever race the pool parties are.

I know for a fact that there are a few tracks that are more then willing to do such a thing, we may not be able to get it every week, but if the effort is made we can certainly accomplish it without paying for it. I agree its definitely preferable if we can do such a thing.

HANA made a lot of hay with their top-tracks list and was welcomed
by Keenaland (#1) with open arms when they showed up there for a HANA
day at the races. Thanks to folks like Mike Maloney I believe that the
Keeneland experience went much deeper than anyone expected.

So why not start with the other tracks on the top-tracks list and work down
from the top. The pitch to the track can recognize where they stand in the HANA heirarchy and see if more "Keeneland experiences" are out there. Understand that what is needed is for HANA to gain some standing with these outfits; so, if HANA has already recognized XYZ track for its favprable attributes and wants to bet some money there to further the relationship, how can the say no?

There is only one #1 rating available and, regardless of how it was arrived at, KEE deserved that title and their response showed why they are the exception. Why should any other track accept their assigned rating?

The rest of the rankings may or may not be relevant even if reasonable. IMO the only meaningful way to rank them is by the actual volume of play they receive regulary from HANA members.

The track rating spreadsheet is an extremmely valuable information tool when used on an individual basis, but IMO any future supportive actions toward tracks should be based on the results of member polls identifying which tracks they actually play (with estimated volume) and which thay could be persuaded to play based on each track's placement within a specific category (column) or combination thereof.

I would like to see members get the opportunity through such polls to convey their support for specific concepts and the specifiic goals and rationale behind them in advance of their taking place

I personally doubt "buycotts" have any value at tracks not played regularly unless they take advantage of the best feature that track has to offer. For example, a single race would not help a track with low takeout for a particular horizontal wager. As others have already indicated, no track deserves a supportive action if the feeling is not mutual.

It seems to me that a HANA supportive action would be effective whenever it confirmed or exceeded well-promoted expectations of HANA's influence and strength.

On Monday on TVG, Rich Perloff gave HANA a plug. I was in the other room and did not hear the substance of it but it was positive.
