Yeah, Just like the zillion other times trainers got caught cheating, They may have been indicted but isn't that why lawyers make big money.
Trainers get caught, They are ruled off, Yet its ok to have a assistant trainer pretend he is the trainer.
The day of the old school horseman is over. Gone are the days when you could handicap a race and knew the playing field was mostly honest.
Think about this!
Would you get in your car and drive it if it started to wobble?
I am sure the effects of these drugs in these horses endanger the lives of the jocks on their backs.
Cheating is one thing, But to pump the kinds of drugs into these horses like they did is animal abuse!
You may not see them, But they will be there!

You are obviously an honest person.

This is why so many fans are walking away from U.S. racing. Not only can't they learn to handicap drugs, so they are being fleeced out of their hard-earned money.......but they are sick to their stomachs when they hear about what is being done to some of these lovely horses.

Yes, it is animal abuse.

Not sure I agree with you about the ones caught this time around (hoping there will be more rounds of this, actually) getting off easy.

These are the Feds, not some rinkydinky state racing board who have financial interests where the cheating trainers train the horses of those sitting on the boards.

Perhaps not everyone but that's what usually happens. Regardless I'll be shocked if some of these defendants don't go to prison. This is a Federal grand jury indictment on conspiracy charges brought in the Southern District of New York. The U.S. Attorney's office has been taking secret, grand jury testimony for sometime and had enough for probable cause to obtain a wiretap warrant. This is not about violation of state racing regulations where a training license is involved. These are Federal charges and they're heart-attack serious.

I began to "follow" TB racing in 1998. Knew little aside from big races and big horses,i.e.Seattle Slew. Am a native ny'er. Read handicapping books, etc. Started wagering on-line and local OTB. Wagered on NYRA, predominately.

My "memory of Servis" was that he was a "big" trainer at a"second- rate racetrack" in "apple=knocker county...Finger Lakes.... Familiar with him when an had occasional racer in ny, usually Aqueduct.

Fair or not...my impression of him...rumors...OTB chatter was that he was a "juicer".(along with others,no doubt) but that was my lasting impression.

Never bet his horses. Always disregarded him vis a vis NY trainers.
"Vaguely" aware he raced at Monmouth. Never figured how he became so "successful" when I'd see his entries in NY...w/ Monmouth PP.

Servis and Navarro should go to jail for 10 years.

Finger Lakes had a bad rep 10/15 yrs ago... Probably better now with casino gambling.

You must not have been paying very close attention because Servis has 412 wins in 1856 starts at NYRA tracks with over $25 million in purses won. In 2019 alone he won 125 races combined at Aqueduct, Belmont, and Saratoga.

I also do not recall Servis racing many at Finger Lakes. Maybe I am wrong.

This is a federal investigation with admissions of guilt on tape, including of drugging a horse that just won a $20 million race. The rest of it seems to be you arguing with yourself. No one said it wasn't animal abuse. Here most of us are always saying there should be more consequences for cheating. You seem to be missing that this is not the racing commission giving 7 days, but that's on you.

By the way, while I know what you're referring to by "old school horseman", Jason Servis is 63 freakin' years old. He IS an "old school" horseman.

I'm not a very good handicapper. I completely disregarded Servis.
Never wagered on his mounts. Like I posted...never got over my initial impression of Servis as a "cheater".

He might be old school, but he is certainly no horseman.

SERVIS-NAVARRO

It is my understanding the FBI wiretapped these two dirt bags.

That said, how are they not guilty??

If they are deemed not guilty, kiss racing goodbye.
If they are found guilty, I'm predicting 5-10 years in prison
with NO chance of parole.

That said, what are the plans to protect the horses, jockeys, honest trainers and the betting public in future years??

Without proper measures, this great game will become a memory.
