I enjoyed this thread. When I saw Jon Court all I could think of was Ken Rudulph on TVG and his love for Jon Court. No offense to Jon Court fans, but I'm sure he would even tell you he's not a top 15 jock.

Mike Smith, better than Ramon. Anyone who believes that better find something to do besides betting horses.
Javier Castellano is riding great, but I will take my chances with Ramon.

Don't forget you also get about 1/2 the price of what you should get.

If I didn't know any better (and yet I do), I would think this thread was started solely to get a few NYRA/TLG jabs on the board....nah...that can't be right...

But how else to explain some of the utterly ridiculous opinions spouted here?

MIKE SMITH? Are you living in the same world as the rest of us?

I know Zenyatta-fever gripped the nation, but who knew the hallucinations would have lasted this long?

New York ONLY

Ramon is absolutely dominating in New York

Average at best anywhere else he rides.

You should probably check your stats before you make these posts.

Ramon has been a little better than average away from Aqu/Bel this year.

In 78 starts he has 19% winners and 56% in the top 3. Yes the 19% is quite a bit lower than the 27.5% winners he has in NY but still quite a bit better than some of the great riders listed in this forum.

http://www.equibase.com/stats/View.c...year&tb=jockey

You will see that most of the top riders nationally have win % between 17%-23%. So Ramon's 19% on the road is hardly average.

Today's 8th at BEL.. I don't understand the ride. Tanglewood Tale stalked the pace on the back, moved up under light urging, and was in a good spot turning for home... except Ramon quit on her as soon as they hit the stretch. Didn't ride her, didn't whip. Not being urged, she quickly fell back.

This was only her 2nd start, and her first route, and I can understand her tiring, but I didn't see him even ask her for anything.

You should probably watch the replay more closely.

ramon is a workhorse. He can ride consistently at a high level over a lot of mounts. He's a good choice to ride favorites on a day in day out basis. He excels going wire to wire in turf routes.

Wow, I really can't believe an anti-Ramon thread is dug up after 3 months because of this perceived bad ride. Ramon's ride cost this horse at least 32, if not 33 lengths; she should have been right there on the wire.....

I did, several times. When does he ask her? When Durkin says, "There goes Tanglewood Tale with a move"? He may have gone from relaxed to a light ride at that point, but he's still not doing that much. When they turn into the stretch and everyone else starts riding hard, Ramon is still up in his seat doing nothing and then looks over his shoulder to move her inside, where he basically eases her. At no point of this race was this filly ridden aggressively.

If you see otherwise, please tell me when.

I have no issue with RD or any NYRA rider. I'd be asking the same question no matter who had the ride. But since this race involved RD and I didn't want to start a new thread about a single race, I did a search for RD and bumped this one.
