Terry Wallace Retiring

Terry Wallace is announcing his retirement. I wonder if his Arkansas Derby call influenced his decision?

maybe these guys that criticise lead perfect lives and never make mistakes in anything they do. i am far from perfect. terry wallace has done a fine job for years and we should all be thankful for his efforts over the last 4 decades. the man doesn't deserve to be rembered for his last 2 years of race calling.

Even if the last couple of years weren't the apex of his career, his legacy spans the growth years of Oaklawn. Thank you Terry Wallace for all your contributions and examples of steadfastness you have set.

Terry Wallace receives the biggest of AMEN BRUDDAH'S. Enjoy Terry Enjoy!!

I'd love to see Frank announcing at some major track other than the fairs.

I think there are a couple of guys who post here that are looking for a job.

Terry Wallace was a love him or hate him type of guy. I liked him. He was a fixture at Aksarben for years. Good luck to him in his retirement.

It's pretty remarkable to think of a streak that lasts 20,000+ race calls. Nothing - not even a flat tire- derailed his ability to turn that mic on each and every time. Amazing.

Oaklawn sounds like a good gig. Would that fit into your schedule, Travis?

Terry Wallace was a fantastic ambassador for horseracing and is a minor celeb in Arkansas. I like the guy...
That being said, imo it was time to hang up the binoculars. I, among many, are well documented in our outspokenness (is that a word?)about the decline of his racecalling skills. But who among is as good as they were thirty five years ago?
Hopefully Oaklawn will keep him on in some capacity.

Does he have to retire? Couldn't he continue as paddock host or handicapper, and let someone else call the races?

I think a lot of people will apply. But no one can replace Terry, just follow on!

I would put Travis Stone at the head of the class for possible replacements. Unbelievably talented and his race calls are clear and descriptive. Great opportunity for Oaklawn to bring on a gifted announcer.

That's just my opinion...who do you guys think are possible replacements?
