Shoot outs in hockey are no different than penalty shots in soccer. They determine a World Cup Champion like that, so no problem using that to have an Olympic Champion crowned. It is no different.

So many parallels with horse racing.. was watching cross country skiing and speed skating, and lots of talk of the athletes getting comfortable behind the pace-setter, moving either too early or too late, and having nothing left in the stretch..

Yes.
That was particularly evident in the speed skating mass start races of 1500 m.
I loved the games.....too much.
To me, most of the sports drew my interest like a magnet.
Now I can get off the couch again and get my life back to normal.

Why would a couple skaters go wayyyy out in front of the rest? It's like they were rabbits .

Seriously, was the hope they would somehow hang on? They all collapsed badly..

It had something to do with points system. You get awarded points at three different intervals along the way. It wouldn't help you in the Olympics but the points help in the season overall.

Shoot outs are bad, they should just play sudden death until someone makes a point - even if it takes 3 days like cricket.
