Breeder's Cup Tweets

Just saw this via David Aragona's twitter, not sure what to think, harmless or crude. The BC retweeting may have been in bad taste. Any opinions?

i disagree with Voss, women not going to the track has a lot to do with their dislike for gambling, this notion that they're avoiding the track because there are men there who like to look at women isn't a valid one in my opinion.

I am of two minds on this issue. True society and the corporate media exploits and objectifies women. But women are partners in this. They also objectify themselves. Corporations do extensive market research before engaging in million dollar ad campaigns and the find that using sexy women gets women's attention in selling women's products.

Look at the covers of men's magazines like Maxim and Esquire - hot sexy women. Look at the covers of women's magazines like Cosmo and Marie Claire - hot sexy women. Both genders are equally guilty of sexual objectification.

If women do not want to be bee seen as sex objects they should not go in public with sexy (AKA sexually arousing) clothes. You can't have it both ways.

Whether or not you agree with this being too PC or not....

The questions should be asked:

What the hell does this have to do with horse racing?

On what planet does racing's continuing infatuation w/ this "edgy" fashion stuff help racing?

I'm not quite sure this kind of marketing crap is helping anything but there's a whole lot of people in the industry paid very well to keep pushing this crap. I personally think it's not doing anything for racing.

As for the article, I could have done w/o the political histrionics. I'm not a woman but I do listen when a woman says something is offensive.

Go to any casino and you'll see guys staring at the pretty ladies all over the place, and there are plenty of pretty ladies. Pretty ladies love to gamble.

Think what you would like but Del Mar's summer meet owes a great deal of its success to beautiful women who go to the track to be seen. Without them you would have the Del Mar fall meet where any crowd north of 5,000 is a huge day.

I never post but I have to say, as a chick, this doesn't bother me at all. Not much offends me though.

I assume advertising that cute ladies are at the track is the same as using happy hour or whatever to get guys in.

For reference my home track is Saratoga but I love the Big A and always feel comfortable there. Plus almost no women means empty bathrooms.

Total betting interests up 0.1%
Handle per race down 16%
Handle per betting interest down 20%
Attendance down 18%
Total on track handle down 31%

When it comes to issues such as this, a woman's perspective is what I value most. Thanks, and you should post more!

Do you park in that dangerous lot at 9 PM in the cold and dark?
Just curious.

( LOL!)

I see. Why not give free admission to women who show up dressed like sexy prostitutes, or even better topless. Those that rate a 9 or above get a special bonus. Better yet, get rid of the low attendance racing and just make it a strip show. That would really boost the gate. Of course all us "ugly" males always pay full price.

I guess when you look at it closely, the photo was inappropriate. However, I would have glanced at it for about 2 seconds and never thought about it again. In my opinion, overarching to correct anything that is deemed politically incorrect is the reason we have the President-Elect that we do now.

The photo and the original tweet were from a personal account. Whether you agree with it or not, it was his tweet and his alone. But the "Official" BC account not only retweeting it but adding a comment that was in poor taste is a whole different matter in my opinion. It condoned and even trumpeted his taste as their own.
