That was great.
He reminded me of the type of character who would walk out of the pages of a Damon Runyan story.

His "Fatso" book is one of my favorite sports books of all time, along with the ABA's "Loose Balls"

Artie sat in section 8 of the upper deck at Memorial Stadium for Colts home games; this was the same section my sister and I sat in for all home games, Art was quite the character. This was at the time when one could bring in coolers to the stadium. Art was there with a friend and they brought in a cooler of beer (Miller Lite) and by the end of the half he was feeling loose. What a big guy he was and funny as hell. One thing he never did was criticize anyone on the field. the last time I saw him was at the Towson Orthopedic Center where he and I were rehabbing fro0m back surgeries. We, and others, spent time in the heated pool doing our exercises. He kept us in stitches. He was truly a legend.

I knew Curtis knew Art, but hell, he has known or spent time with half of all of Baltimore Sports Royalty. Great stories abound

Ralph- this is the honest to God's truth; I have met Brooks on 3 occasions- once as a teen - once at Pappas' restaurant (you have been there) and once at the Lyric opera jouse where he actually remembered my name. I met Johnny U at the Bob Foster-Mark Tessman lt. Hvwt. title bout at the Balt. Civic Center, Boog Powell at the Cross Sr. market where he regularly dined on sushi, Orlando Brown many times at the samre place(huge man) nd others too countless to mention. These guys were just like you and I- down to earth and just plain folks.

Baltimore is a very unique place, Sports celebs are out and about and like to be recognized. The one who I have geard is a real a== is Cal jr. but then I don't know that as a a fact.
