He was really great. I remember one time during a race call " it is the bottom of the eighth and the Yankees are up 3-2" and it was right within the flow of the race without missing a beat on the call. Too funny.

I loved Larry, but you know if he did that today, or the other "nonserious" things he said, people on places like this would be complaining that he did too much comedy and didn't just call the race.

nice interview of Larry:

You are known for being creative in your race calls. Do you have a favorite from those "creations"?
The one that everyone remembers is 'It's not a battle, it's a war.' I always liked 'Into the highway of heroes or into the boulevard of broken dreams'. There was once a horse named Dominatrix and I said the horse 'was under the whip and loved every minute of it.' There was also a horse named Pizza Joe. It was a close photo and I said he 'won by a slice.' I didn't even plan that.

Oy Gevalt the 5 broke
My favorite Larry call which I cannot find as it was likeluy spur of the moment is when he announced an entire race as comedian Jackie Mason.
A horse broke at the start and he said Oy Gevalt the 5 broke,
Practically peed my pants.
Now when he announces Freehold to a live crowd of maybe 50 patrons he describes the race as "the crowd is going crazy" when they get to the stretctch.
He is not only a great race called but also a great entertainer.

She's doing well, considering the garbage races she has to call. I've heard a lot worse. Mountaineer's Jim Dolan. John Bogar at Penn National. Tony Calo in North California and at Finger Lakes. Mike Battaglia in Kentucky. Bill Murphy at AkSarBen. They are or were around for decades.

Fill-in announcer
After just a couple races, its clear fill-in announcer Edison Hatter is far superior to Jessica Paquette. He clearly identifies what's going on and which horses are making moves.

Quite good when I heard him calling Freehold. Very young with an extremely bright future.

Edison is great. If the job was based on performance. He would keep it.

It is impossible to read this thread with any objectivity and not see it as sexist. The endless carrying on would not be happening if she was a man.

A sample size of ONE cannot be called a PATTERN.
However, I do agree that she's not being given a fair shake.
