Belmont Race 10
So you have a NYB # 3 Went the Day Well that came in 4th in the Kentucky Derby 2 yeas ago. Started his career in Europe in bulky field on Good turf courses like todays is. Gets blinkers off which is how he earned his best figs and Jason Blewett makes him 12-1 in a restricted NYB race and just now did not give him a mention in the paddock discussion.
Now I know this horse had an tie up procedure done, but how can he and Beer leave him out of any discussion in a very mediocre field of NYBreds as if he is not even an entrant in the race.

You think he deserves extra attention off those last three races?
His only hope is that his best races were on turf.

He had every chance to win.
Went the Day Well was one of those horses that made a strong run in the Derby because of the pace and subsequently fooled people into thinking he's talented.

He's in fine company with horses like Ice Box, Dullahan, and Commanding Curve

My point was not that I expected him to win...which BTW I did. But based on the PPs of his turf form from Europe where he started his career on turf with 2 seconds in fields with a dozen horses and shipped over to the USA to win the Grade 3 Spiral...and open race and run 4th in the Derby....how does he get assessed at 12-1 ML and when Blewett discussed the field in the paddock review, how does he speak about 1/2 dozen entrants and not mention this horse.
Who still BTW outfininshed all of the selections Blewett and BEER made
Blewett 8-4-9
Beer 12-6-10
Not a single one in the money out of six horses
Honesttly, I view his 12-1 ML as a case of Morning Line malpractice.
OK Bring it on....

Regarding the same race, the Status of Forces is in my virtual stable, and I've followed him because of his Finger Lakes connections. The horse was 50/1 on the ML, but I always plunk down a few bucks to Show on him, cuz on a good day he's capable of being there at the end.
In the DRF it said the inside post should give him an opportunity to get involved early, something he's had an issue with. So.. the gate opens, and the jock immediately grabs him and drops him back.
He moved up in the first half and was grabbed back again. As they turned for home, he had zero kick.
I see Serling griping constantly about all the grabbing that goes on, and it's frustrating. Not saying this horse would have been there at the end otherwise, but I just wanted to see him in a good early position up front for a change.

Unless there's been a recent change, Eric Donovan makes the M/L in NY. I can remember times in the past when Jason Blewitt made the line if Mr. Donovan was on vacation, but I'm not aware that's the case today.
If I had any say in the matter, the track would tell you who made the line...it would give it more transparency. Mr. Donovan is a sharp one; his M/L is pretty darn accurate. In this race, he may have under-estimated the support WTDW would receive, but only slightly. He had WDTW as the 5th rated horse @ 10-1 (not 12-1), and he went off as the 4th rated horse @ 6.5-1. I'd call that within the margin of error.

Went the Day Well had every chance. At no time during today's race was the horse's position compromised. The horse got a quality effort from the jockey. And went well.

I watched the replay on both the pan and head on...Your horse either got a bad ride of Smorgasbord proportions or the rider followed some rather strange instructions given by the trainer.
The horse was taken back from the break. Committed to the rail. Each time a horse in front made the slightest move to the left, Lezcano( Abel) didn't take up, he hit the brakes. He tried unsuccessfully to "push button" the horse three times. Of course the horse spat out the bit.
Now, here's something else. In the 3rd race Abel Lezcano rode to a last place finish in a field of 12. This time, He was last out of the gate by some 5 lengths. Tried to circle the field and was 5 wide mid pack at the head of the stretch. His horse also called it quits before the 3/16th's.
Now to be outdone....( Don't know if these two guys are brothers or even related) but Jose Lezcano gave his backers an almost equally dismal performance.....Jose had 5 mounts. One in the 5th race actually filled out the Super...From there it was a stellar day...
6th race...Got dumped just off the break
7th race....Finished 8th of 9 starters
8th race....GUess what....He beat ONE horse in a field of 9
9th race.....You have got to be kidding.....Field of 9....Wait for it....Beat ONE horse.....
Now back to your virtual stable horse. If I were you, I'd keep betting it. But only with a positive jockey change. I saw nothing wrong with the horse. His stride looked fine. Although it was tough to tell if the horse has any kind of talent at all with this particular rider having him in a freakin strangle hold that would make a pro wrestler proud....Jesus Christ...Let the horse run.....
