Each to their own........obviously.
You're right.....there is little comparison.
I'll take Costello's music any day of the week.

Did Elvis Presley ever write a song?
Young Elvis Presley was a trailblazer.
Fat Elvis?....not so much.

I’m not going to argue Elvis w you. Elvis actually did write some songs but gave the writing credits to his guys. Red West and Joe Esposito both were cashing royalty checks up until they died and their families are still getting paid.

There are interviews with West where he talks about bringing songs to Elvis and Elvis finishing them and recording them. Elvis took no song writing credit. See Red West’s Wiki

“West contributed to several songs written by Elvis Presley in 1961 and 1962.[7] He received help from Elvis Presley in writing two songs in the early 1960s, which were collaborations: "You'll Be Gone" and "That's Someone You Never Forget".[8]”

Btw, Elvis excelled as a producer of his own music. Listening to studio sessions, you find he was a great producer. With guys like Lieber-Stoller and Doc Pomus at your whim, you don’t need to write.

There are three phases of Elvis’s life. Early groundbreaker. Post movie Elvis (68 comeback special/Vegas etc) then the last five years. The last five years he suffered terrible diverticulitis and kept it hidden. Sneaking in and out of the hospital several times a year. That’s where he got trapped by prescription drugs. You know, like your hero JFK? But I bet you don’t call him a junkie?

Credit where credit is due......that's a good post

I'd never deny for a second that Elvis Presley deserved his title of "The King".
His influence on music and entertainment was enormous.
Personally, I just happen to prefer listening to Elvis Costello.

I doubt I ever called Elvis a junkie.
He, like JFK, had his flaws.
Many great men do.

Mertz called Elvis a junkie in post 10.

I thought it was you. I apologize.

That's the truth.
Elvis was obviously a gifted artist.
From what I understand, he was also a decent person.
But his life was tragic as well.
