we buy whole bean and grind our own as needed. I think you get a better flavor from your coffee that way.

Buy and grind at Costco.
We switched this year to a Keurig pod machine.
It's been great, especially being able to reuse a pod with our own coffee.
Much less waste, as we don't make pots of coffee anymore,
plus it makes other hot drinks very nicely.

Absolutely. Grind right before brewing. Water temp is important, too. And using something other than a drip machine will help as well.

Love mine!!! Don't ever use my Bunn coffeemaker anymore. Can grind my beans with the Keurig, using my reuse pod, though, rarely do so.

Surprised me - didn't think I would like it.

Great thread for coffee lovers.
I never drank coffee until I was in my 40's, then I started drinking to excess.
When I really got into the swing, I always did whole bean, kept in the freezer for freshness, and burr ground it just before brewing. I was picky and only did drip Calphalon coffee makers with purity filters.
As time went on and I started drinking to excess, and nervousness got the best of me, I switched to ground coffee and 1/2 calf. To this day, that's what I drink. I try and limit to 2 cups a day.
Brand? Surprisingly, Folgers 1/2 caf. But I still insist on Calphalon drip coffee makers. Thank goodness for Calphalon outlets in outlet malls.
Hey, I was a snob. I was a Peets Coffee Major Dickenson or Jamaican Blue Mountain only - whole bean guy. But after 10 years of that, I just switched to off the shelf Folgers 1/2 calf and have been happy.
Once in a while, I make myself a Latte. I have a Braun Espresso machine that I've had for 15 years and it still works great. For those rare days, I do only Illy or Lavazza Espresso roast - ground.
And I take all coffee/espresso with Skim Milk.

My wife doesn't drink coffee so I use an Aeropress - grind the coffee just before brewing it.

I probably will try an Aeropress one day. Pretty happy with my Sowden SoftBrew for the time being.

I have an Aeropress, and I've tried just about every type of machine including Nespresso, which is a very good espresso machine. My favorite everyday coffee, which I get from coffeeforless.com, is Lacas City Roast whole bean. I buy it in 5 lb bags and it's a great buy.

For a while, I did use a French Press. You can get a great cup of coffee out of a press. But drip makes have me spoiled.
When I traveled heavily and wanted MY coffee on the road, I bought a little Pyrex French Press from Target. I'd grind about a week's worth of my coffee before I left home, double bagged the grounds ziploc bags.
I guess you are pretty addicted when you travel with your own coffee press.

I originally bought my press for traveling to Mexico. Can't live without it now.

At one time I was a coffee importer and roaster so I had all the fancy gadgets to make a great cup. Today, I lead a simpler existence. I use a good Italian espresso and a moka pot. Six minutes and it makes about 3 demitasse cups which is plenty to start my day. I think the key is to use good water so I use bottled not tap.
