Tiago, whom I wouldn't have bet if I could have had 290/1 odds, is yet another example of how the right grinding style can win a fast paced distance race, where few if any of the contenders can see out the distance.
Tiago may have Giacomo's style, and that will help him pick off a lot of tiring horses in the Derby---however, he certainly hasn't shown the same promise Giacomo did in the early stages of his career---and he's not going to be 50/1 either. The biggest thing he has in common besides his grinding style, is the fact that he also catches a very weak 3yo crop.
I see Tiago running about 7th or 8th, at about 24/1 odds. I guess he can be used in the 4th slot of your superfecta, and maybe the 3rd slot of your tri if your fairly confident who you like in the top two positions---however, I wouldn't take him to win the Derby if I could get 290/1 odds on him that day as well.
