They need more than just security. They need a populace that looks out for one another, with enough “brotherly love” to intervene in this kind of sick attack rather than pretend it isn’t happening. People complain about rising crime rates, and for good reason — but at least these bystanders don’t care enough about it to lift a finger to do anything about it. Literally.

Is it plausible to think that the people who would demand MORE SECURITY are the same ones who would want to DEFUND POLICE?

Very plausible. Cognitive Dissonance these days is more contagious than covid.

Another thing to consider about this horrible crime is that if the perp is the black guy in the picture in the article, then the brothers on the train could have been reluctant to turn on one of their own, and the white people looked the other way because to have intervened would have been considered a racist act.

Sadly, this is the upside down, inside out, topsy turvy world we live in -- where good is evil and evil is good.
