So horse players would have more to complain about!!!
Doesn't make a ton of sense but what really does it hurt? Owner with Derby fever may try for more points and wheel back two weeks in the Derby... seems okay to me.

Why would you even question this? Tons of interest from horses on the bubble, that's why it has points.
Fifteen years ago there was a horse who made the Lexington his last prep, He won the Lexington and ran pretty well in the derby and Preakness. Jockey was some guy named Antley trainer was a guy named Lukas.
You should look that horse up sometime.

Believe he was 16-1 that day? Older black guy who worked out at Overbrook used to be a regular at a liquor store I worked out here in town. Touted me on that horse before the Lexington and on. I ignored him because I had the Derby winner already figured out ( ), but he made a few months salary on the Lexington, Derby, and Preakness.
And no, he didn't parlay it all on the Belmont..

Ah yes, the former claimer. He put up a pretty brave effort in the Belmont too.

I won't get into the specifics of my age, but he was the first horse I ever really followed, and his effort in the Belmont convinced me that these horses were capable of things human athletes only dream about.
I'm hooked for life because of that day at the Belmont.

ok let me refrain my question:
why is this only worth 10 pts to the winner? if it was 50 i get it, but 10? why bother...
hows that?

Kind of a last chance for horses on the borderline I guess. There are probably plenty of horses that could get in with a win.

It's likely only worth 10pts because the race is a Gr3.
I could see someone running their horse if they needed just a few points, but I get what you're saying.

It would seem that way, but Grade doesn't seem to be a factor in the other races and how many points they award.

I wasn't much of a believer of him prior to the race but obviously he wins the Belmont and triple crown if he doesn't get injured.
Very memorable, and glad he survived to stand at stud.

With the switch back to dirt, have to think we will see more use this race as a last shot to get in the Derby.
