There seemed some poetry in the 6th today. Stonestreet colors, Asmussen-trained, daughter of Curlin romping as a first time starter, Ms Barbara Banke looking on, smiling behind the winner’s circle.
Maybe Jess Jackson was also looking on. You just gotta know he would feel thrilled and flattered by the manner his wife Ms. Banke has fostered his dream for Stonestreet. They were both late in their lives coming to racing, but the manner in which Stonestreet has evolved as a stable that both breeds and races...is about as old school as it gets.
Mr. Jackson’s dream mating of Curlin and Rachel Alexandria didn’t produce the super-horse he envisioned. But wouldn’t it be ironic if Palio Flag, named after a race in a country that has produced a few wines of its own, goes on to be the broodmare that fulfills that dream.
