Mountaineer's Mark Patterson
We had the chance to interview the King of the Mountain, Mark Patterson. I love the fact that he loves his job and is about the people. Check it out!

another good guest
1:04 = "One expression I hate, is 'Easy Win'...Easy win is not in my lexicon as a handicapper/analyst, -And, I'll tell you why..."
lot of 'gems' in here.
Great story near the beginning around 31:00. (and the Triple Clowns talk racing news before that, an entertaining horse racing listen)
fun to hear hear Mark able to just talk racing!, in a casual, but hardcore racing environment.
All the Mark Patterson/Mountaineer fans(/cult?!), should take the time to give this a listen.
I'm multi-tasking with the podcast on, hearing Peter Berry calling the 1st race @ the Mtn as I type, and starting the grill for some BBQ chipotle chicken.
"Oliveros on the turf" $$

1:04:00 ^^ (1hr4min not 1min4sec /'Easy Win')(perhaps applies to Midnight Bisou?)
1:11.05 "I've never done an interview like this..."
I'm half promoting another good guest on a podcast, and I'm half, plain old psyched-up again about the game, listening to Mark talk racing, while I have some coffee and puzzle over some races on today's betting menu.
Racing is getting fun again. Kentucky Derby is in September, in the meantime we have good stakes racing every weekend, Derby-prep events like the Bluegrass Stakes, and frequent multi-race jackpots and opportunities.

Tx, Jason. 310 views so far. My phone has been blowing up with texts. It was a fun experience. I dig the clowns.

BTW- I'm sure the whole "king" thing was meant in jest. I can think of better candidates.

I can't believe you gave out your text 'number' on the show.
There have been a bunch of really good guests, but your appearance certainly ranks among the best that have been on the show.
Only 'Organic' person-to-person marketing thus far (no 'paid' views, etc) so that really is 310+ views by fans and players.

Is the West Virginia Derby offering qualifying points for the KY Derby this year?

I don't see them listed.
Could be overlooking. Confusing year.
Probably deserves some level of point offerings.
seeing Bluegrass, Haskell, Travers, as the big 100pt--> offerings on the schedule.

Thanks for the reply. I looked up races offering points and it's not listed. I thought perhaps this year I might have missed something and it was a late addition.

Good interview. Someone else who admits to dropping out to 'play'.

Mark, are your Mountaineer selections published anywhere in advance of your live pre-race summaries?

Mark Patterson is a low key, knowledgeable commentator, that knows his product and his audience. He and Peter Berry make a nice team, and I enjoy listening to them.
Unlike some talking heads who try to impress you with their vast knowledge of the game, only to embarrass themselves by showing how really little they truly know about the game, Mark is a Mountaineer and "Mountaineer circuit" specialist. He has been around forever and personally knows most of the trainers, many of the horses and their traits.
He provide his opinions and gives his best guess as to how a race will unfold.
He also comes back and comments on how the previous race evolved, right or wrong, something you will never hear from in house shills nor the talking heads on TVG.
I factor his input into my handicapping, pro or con. As he says, he is what he is. He's not for everyone, but for those of us who are part of his Mountain Nation, he works for us.
