Unlike some talking heads who try to impress you with their vast knowledge of the game, only to embarrass themselves by showing how really little they truly know about the game, Mark is a Mountaineer and "Mountaineer circuit" specialist. He has been around forever and personally knows most of the trainers, many of the horses and their traits.
He provide his opinions and gives his best guess as to how a race will unfold.
He also comes back and comments on how the previous race evolved, right or wrong, something you will never hear from in house shills nor the talking heads on TVG.
I factor his input into my handicapping, pro or con. As he says, he is what he is. He's not for everyone, but for those of us who are part of his Mountain Nation, he works for us.

TX, dude. The odd thing is I'm either branded too intense or too low key, never middle of the road. In my opinion, I probably should take the content down just a notch and preach less to the choir. But Mnr nation includes too many sharp players for me to feel comfortable about dumbing it down. So instead, I try to break up the commentary with humor , movie quotes, and shout outs.
Much gratitude for propping the post-race. I can't just let a race go after breaking it down in depth beforehand. And there are always aspects of a just-completed race that I want viewers to take away for future reference. Or peripheral things that drive a story-line applicable to something later on the card. And I admit I enjoy the recaps much more than the pre-race. While Pre-race commentary imposes certain time-worn parameters, the post-race analysis can go ANYwhere..and appropriately so.
And yes, Pete ROCKS. We somehow elevate each other.
