come monday, it'll be alright?

ok poker fans, we are back in steamy atlantic city for one final day of gambling action!

we check out of tropicana with plans for a double header at harrah's ac and later, pennsylvania's number one casino: parx.

first we catch some breakfast at the trop's wild honey smokehouse and tavern
. this only rates 3.9 stars on google, but the breakfast was excellent. after a walk to the outlet malls we return to the marina to try our luck at harrah's.

i start off in a 3/6 game that is always threatening to break and eventually does. i'm dead even and get moved to table 15 (over by mccormick & schmick's, 4.2 stars on google). for whatever reason, this table always seems to offer a fast moving game that's a joy to play in. after some time, i forge to a lead before AA falls to J6 and i decide to call it, up $17 for the session.

we arrive late at parx. estrella is hungry and really, so am i and we opt for bambu noodle house. again, this somehow only rates 3.5 stars on google but i found the general tso's to be maybe the best i've had and estrella gives bambu high marks as well.

i can't really say that parx is a nicer casino than pen, which imo has a great layout. what parx does have though is a thriving poker room. unfortunately it's getting too late and we have to get back to grantville, so there will be no second game.

thank you for reading our post labor day weekend jimmy buffett tribute posts.
i wish i could say come monday, it'll be alright but the reality is (paraphrasing matt damon in rounders) that monday i'll be back humping a crappy job on graveyard shift. these jobs, mr damon said, "are for rounders who forgot the cardinal rule"... and right now i can't remember what that is.

game +17 (3/6 lim)
year -122 (3-2)

this is a little long...

will be reggin a circuit game this coming saturday at thunder valley. 130 miles from home so i'll be staying overnight. it's event 2, 400 bi-250k guaranteed, day 1d w day 2 on sunday. it's the only game in the series i can reg, cuz we'd committed previously to taking the 89yo parents out to the house we bought in louisiana right after i return from it. 10 days w em. they're excited and it'll probably be the last plane ride of their lives so...worth it. thankfully oct 19 begins the ten day road trip run good series. much closer to home, at graton. i'll look up the events in depth when i get home to the bayou and will build a schedule from there.

unfun fact. embarrassingly, i have zero career cashes in games that could show up on hendon mob. 0-6 in those. that'll change w volume. i can feel it. if at first you don't succeed...

fun fact. have gained 60 hours of cash experience in a month, grinding one or two days a week, 4-6 hours per session. it's been profitable and educational. super fun if seated near ppl who like to talk about myriad topics. v boring wo someone to chat w. played 13 sessions, going 9-4. all four losers were in a row and as a direct result of semi bluffing for stacks when i simu blocked the nuts/unblocked their bluffs. moves that work v well in 600 bi tournaments and not well at all in low stakes nl cash. it took -2k in a row to learn the lesson...these ppl won't fold. regardless of whether or not their calls are +or- long term, they won't fold. played 1-1-3 at graton, 1-2-3 at oaks and 1-2-2 at lucky chances. biggest swings: +1810 at graton, -780 at oaks. v small sample size, but am pleased to report a 55 an hour pay rate thus far. railed the 2-5nl games at those rooms many times til my name got called off the waiting lists. the players are the same as they are at the 1-3 introductory level i'm currently at. no difference. 1k cap on its bi where as 1-3 caps it at 500-600. if i can keep finding friendly social games and i can keep winnin, by years' end i should be playing in em.

I'm pleased to report that I've made it to day 2 of the game I regged today! 10am restart. Have a workable stack that's double the chip average of 130k. I bagged 256k. Guaranteed mincash, but that's not what I drove all the way up here for. Let's make a run people! Hello hendon mob. Nice to be listed after my 7th attempt.

out in 27th. while i'd not put any bad beats on villains, none had done so to me either. it's called running good. i kept going all in dozens of times, pre and post alike, somewhere between a 70 and 92% fav and i held up every time until i had 800k at the 25k/50k level. that's when the 1.2m stacked highjack opened. in the cutoff i woke up with queens. i decided to reraise all in. it folded back to him and he took about 60 seconds to call with ace queen off. once again i was a 70/30 fav to dub, only this time it was finally the 30% of the time my hand did not hold up. so stoked i lasted a long time and made some ok change. so painfully bummed it had to end. nhgg.

Greetings from the beautiful bayou home. Can't wait til we're actually living here full time. Don't wanna go back to the bay, but life's responsibilities won't wait any longer.

Nice to take a couple weeks break away from hours of grinding and work alike. Didn't realize how much I'd been burning the candle.

Reviewed the road trip run good series and here's the schedule I will be reggin, 1600 max at risk, max to be won, is about 70k. Let's go!

Sat 10.21, 11am, 400bi opener, day 1d, 200k

If dead from opener...
Sun 10.22, 1pm, 400bi black chip bounty, 25k

Sat 10.28, 9am, 105bi main satty

Sat 10.28, 2pm, 185bi main satty

If dead from sattys and main...
Sun 10.29, 1pm, 400bi one day ringer, 25k

was overdue for some run bad after posting the best month, september, of live poker lifetime. 75 an hour x 80 hours is laughed at by pros, but for this hobbyist it's a milestone.

first 6 hours of october are in. -165 an hour. took a shot playing 2/5 no limit and got v unlucky. of course it was minutes before i told myself it was time to go. if it's not a tournament there's a six hour cap. treaded water around even for a long while til this happened to my big blind.

1020 effective. there was a limper utg1, mp raised to 25, button called, i defended w j9 hearts, utg1 called to finish the action pre.

four ways and it's 100 to the dream flop. 10-8-7 w one heart/rainbow. nut straight w back door hearts. figured that someone would bet the flop four ways. thought it therefore best to play it as a check raise, hoping to get stacks in right then. me as well as utg1 checked. opener bet 45. button raised to 150. i 3 bet to 450. utg1 folded. opener called, which made him all in. button 4 bet shoved and had me covered. opener had 88. button had 77. turn was clean. river paired the 10 and i lost 1k.

questioned whether it should've been a 3 bet shove for 995 on that flop, but really it's a standard spot played in the most ordinary of ways. writing and kvetching cuz i still haven't learned to deal w losing well enough.

i would like to get all in on the turn here so i'd consider raising slightly more to set up a turn shove that is a little less than the total that the raiser put in on the flop. psychologically it makes it easier to call. jmo.

anyhow, brutal river.

road trip run good...

bagged 84k for day 2. we're itm, so the worst case scenario is the 400 bi gets doubled. of course i wanna make a run, so here's hoping. blinds are 4k/8k when we return tomorrow at 11. need to double fast.
