I'm in the 'let the result stand' camp unless it's 100% certain the foul cost the horse a placing.

BUT, fine the jockey for careless or bad riding.

Excerpt:

The first is from our own Rob Henie, who does the weekly handicapping lesson for this newsletter. He’s the author of the successful West Coast (and East Coast) Handicapping Report. And, as he writes, his choice to win the race, was Achira. So, Rob …

“A day after winning the Kentucky Derby, Mike Smith was involved in yet another DQ controversy, or we should say, ‘non-DQ’ debate.

“For those who saw the race, Smith and Achira were on the front end. Down the lane they drifted out significantly. Yes, Achira was our top pick, but never mind that, he should have been disqualified, plain and simple. These are the California stewards who, over the years, have been responsible for the worst DQs and non-DQs ever seen in the sport.

That's what they should do.

This should be the right way everywhere.

Don't take a winner down unless it's like I just said before.

Don't penalize the bettors for backing the winner.

The problem isn't the call. It's lack of consistency that bothers people.

In case anyone forgot.

The NY stewards made the SAME CALL in the Wood Memorial!

Vino Rosso stayed up. JV was later fined.

New standard? Maybe, and I'm for it!

NY is pretty lenient on horses drifting out, and they are pretty consistent about it.

How the same stewards could DQ McKinzie and Solomini and not that horse makes no sense.

I also prefer this method of penalizing a jockey & not bettors, hope it catches on more frequently but ONLY when it's quite clear a horse was not cost a better placing. I thought 100% correct in Wood Memorial the way it was handled, Achira was a must DQ though.

If a foul was a foul rule implemented you would have a short term pain for long term game. There would be a lot less incidents in that case.

Right now there is no reason for the riders to not play bumper car roulette as its 50/50 if they will get taken down.

Julio Felix should be fined for a frivolous claim in the 9th at Arlington. The head-on showed that the winner not only didn't touch or cross in front of Felix's horse, the jockey was whipping with the other hand and couldn't have struck the other horse with the whip. To the stewards' credit, the objection lasted less than 45 seconds before being dismissed.

Race 3 |May 16 - Wed

DQ of #3 Wine Critic ridden by luis quinonez
I think this was an awful decision considering the 3 horse was always ahead of 3 behind who stewards placed ahead of him. Don't really feel horse veered from his path to hinder followers. Horse was also left hand whipped in stretch and still held steady path. Once again terrible decision!!!!!!

I think they accidentally took down the wrong horse, seriously.
