I totally would like to see night racing for my own selfish reasons but like al hat tab I think there are challenges. It is very isolated and it is a very big plant. If you go east you hit Elmont which is ok but go west and there's Queens Village and less nice places, nothing too bad but it does not scream destination.

Roosevelt Raceway had a totally different scenario. A half mile track meant a smaller facility. The surrounding area was fairly nice and had much shopping and dining choices.

In a world where 90% of money is wagered off track, I don't know if all of the talk about the neighborhood around Belmont and how night racing is safe or not is touching in that people still actually want to attend live, or a sign that people have no clue how tracks make their money these days.

As far as night racing, it certainly saved Atlantic City, Garden State, and the Meadowlands here in NJ, so I'm sure it will save Belmont as well.

IMO there's really little downside to it.

Having lights installed will in one way or another eventually be a benefit.

Off-track/ADW traffic should go up. I'm on the west coast and I would love to have an A-list track go online about 3pm my time.

Can't speak to the neighborhood specifically, haven't been there. But I do miss Fri nights at Hollywood and Inglewood can't be any nicer than Elmont.

And those systems are much more than what is needed for horse racing.
MUSCO, the sports venue lighting company has come a long way in lighting technology. its better light, more energy efficient and less costly.
Also, I realize it is only a mile track, but Churchill's lights are great. They use big arc light towers and the illumination is totally even.

Seriously? I am a 3 track guy and I get bored passing races. I look at every turf event available on a Saturday. Belmont's extra would crush your bliss? Really! Good one!

I worked at GAM in high school...it's gotten a lot worse since then, although I haven't been there in ages.

I've never once felt unsafe at Belmont...not in the parking lots...not even in the tunnel underneath Hempstead Turnpike.

And if they do night racing, you can rest assured there will be lights in locations other than the racetrack...

That's because the victims leave on a slab and don't say much .

Night racing at NYRA could be a bad idea.
The way they grab and hold, some of them might fall asleep in the saddle if it if dark out!

Night Racing at Belmont

I've posted my thoughts/wishes for this thought on this Board and on the DRF(may it rest in peace)

Frankly, my greatest wish would be to have night racing at the Spa
on Friday Nights, and Monday nights.(not twilight racing).

Coupled with a real Casino, ie table games, this game would perk up,
and would easily gain some hard core casino fans..

Then again, the eternal issue has been a negative effect on the
standardbreds, unless this is a signal a deal has been made in Albany?

There is a fine line upstate. If you go with twilight racing, you get alot of push back from the community since it would but a dent in the dinner crowd business at the local restaurants. Everything up here is under a microscope. The idea of a full scale casino was floated but would have taken place at the harness track which has the slots and video terminals. It was voted down because they didnt want the type of crowd table games would attract

Night racing would never happen. Unlike most tracks they do really well with attendance and on track handle. Alot of families attend that I just couldnt see hanging around all night. Even worse on a Monday. Most people leave town that day but stick around for the races before leaving. If that was moved to night racing, the place would be a ghost town. I could see night racing at Belmont for sure, Aqueduct not so much with the winter schedule and temps at night.

I won't be watching at night.

A good way to turn ghost town into super duper ghost town.
On weekdays who is more likely to be drunk and gambling addicted..those watching at night or during the day?
