And her I thought these were capitalists
Everyone in Phoenix KNEW all year, that the Super Bowl was going to be here THIS weekend. All the hotels full, traffic in a snarl, and no parking available almost anywhere.
Rather than SCORE the same big bucks TWO weekends separately, what do these "planners" do? They set up the Phoenix Open Golf Tournament the SAME week (Thursday through Sunday)
Now rather than spread out the influx (and over bookings) to TWO weekends they fill the place up unnecessarily ON THE SAME DAYS.
Driving anywhere near the downtown core is a mess

How many people attend a golf tournament, I have no idea? The only places I went in that area were Turf Paradise and Phoenix Greyhound Park.

Believe it or not Phoenix Open live attendance is expected to be about 200,000 on Saturday.
State Farm Stadium in the west valley hosting the Super Bowl this year has a listed capacity of 63,400 plus the ability to add another 10,000 seats for special events. Expected live attendance 73,000.

This is the 4th time the Super Bowl and Phoenix Open have shared the same weekend in Arizona and the world didn't come to an end the first three times. The NFL and PGA have traditional schedules, the two events are in the same county but two separate cities so who are you referring to with "they" and "these planners"? The city of Phoenix has nothing to do with it.
Also, I'm sure the television revenue from either event makes the revenue from hotels/restaurants/parking in Maricopa County look like peanuts.

I used to work as a police officer at the Dublin Ohio Memorial Tournament in Dublin/Columbus Ohio
It was designed to hold 40k a day. It was full most days. Lots of directing of traffic etc. All day from 6a-8p

The 16th hole at the Phoenix Open is its own spectacle.
You have to get a special ticket to not only get in the gates, but to that specific hole.
It is pure frat party craziness.

Said that there has been 7.2 million beers consumed thus far at this tournament.
So, doing the math of 200K per day, that is a 12 pack per person.

No more super bowls in Arizona until they can count and report election totals within same night like all other states.

That sounds about right……amazing? Remember that’s less than one beer per hole
