Todays third race was a very poor call------she called the wrong horse several times--lost her cool at the start--and never recovered

I have no idea what the pay scales are, I am sure Parx would pay way less than Oaklawn, correct?

No interest in or particular insight about the politics of job-opportunity, and this caller may never join the elite, but her improvement seems little short of astonishing.
And what a tough craft to learn under fire. Grade her performance and potential as you will, but the lady has guts and learns quickly.

I have to agree with you. She has proven to be a very capable woman. She has her own style which isn't really bad. I think the key is you can tell she's enjoying herself now. But, I would totally understand anyone that doesn't appreciate her style.

I have to say, I prefer the way Conan calls a race if you pick the vid up at the 4:20 mark....

In all seriousness, if you never had the pleasure of hearing a Larry Lederman called race, perhaps your frame of comparison isn't the same as mine. I didn't have to bet his races to enjoy his race calls. This vid is an example.(note the energy)

Larry Lederman
Never has been, never will be an announcer as good as Larry. Still shows up announcing Freehold now and then. I believe I post here when he makes a guest appearance. Maybe in the harness section.

Parx would pay less, but year round.

I totally agree--to me the best ever--don't follow harness racing but I remember going to the Meadowlands many years ago and heard many of his thorough bred calls--I believe he was battling brain cancer many years ago and pray he is okay now==I remember if he was calling a race and I lost my bet his race calls bought a smile to my face anyway

The only place I bet Garden State was at Agua Caliente in the early 80's through early 90's. He is a good caller but the voice doesn't ring a bell. Every time I see a defunct track mentioned I try to guess when it closed, they usually have been gone longer than I thought, that is probably a product of being in my 60's. I guessed further back on Garden State I figured it shut down in the late 90's and it made it to 2001.
