Ocean Downs Racetrack

http://www.oceandowns.com/wp-content...PDATED.doc.pdf

Classified races:
∙ Ocean Downs will be utilizing a new classified system that matches horses of
equal ability by having each horse assigned a speed rating.
∙ The lowest classified event is restricted to Maryland owned/sired/bred and must
have five or more starts in 2018 to be eligible.
● No horses may enter without being approved.

Does it means they put the same speed rating horse to the same class but not by money earning.

Classification done by the same group that made Marion Marauder 10-1 morning line a few weeks ago (trackmaster). That maybe similar to making Justify 10-1 in the Belmont.

Yes, it's based on an average of a horse's best speed ratings from its last five to ten starts, based on what I read about it. They tried it in a few races at Hoosier. I think it could work but the racing secretary should look over each race and make any adjustments if something seems odd. Ideally you'd want a race where all of the horse's base speed rating is within two or three points of each other, when possible.
