So nothing wrong with the race, just a tote malfunction. That should make the people that bet the winning horse feel a lot better.

Ridiculous - just heard about this race on TVG
Tote malfunction...what a broad term that is.
They have the money, so I guess they can't figure which money was bet on which horse...??
It's nothing nefarious or underhanded because the track will lose as a result of this, but that's little consolation to those who held "winning" tickets.

I would ask why was the race even run? Was the tote OK until after the race? Only in racing...

I wonder if the odds kept being updated and changing (and if not) at what point that stopped.
That may indicate that the tote wasn't integrating new money into the pools

You never saw these kinds of shenanigans when Jerry Lewis was manning the tote.
Of course, Tony Orlando is no longer tying a Yellow Ribbon, it's now the Rodeo Drive, and the Oak Tree is a bush at a fair meet.

Why not just pay the winners? I dont understand why a tote malfunction is grounds for giving people who bet on losing horses their money back.

And you know there are plenty of discarded tickets thought to be losers across the land because they never alert bettors to this in an OTB. Only the lucky ones with the sound up probably had any clue.

Brilliant...awhile back Gino said they would have the Del Park track announcer on and would ask him about the tote malfunction in R3.
But instead, they kissed his ass and talked Arabians for awhile and let him go with no question about the huge elephant in the room.

The bettors who had the winners could care less about some technical glitch that's the fault of the track. That's a "behind the scenes" administrative situation. If you want to refund the losing bettors, refund those people and pay off the winning bettors out of your own money if you have to.
It always seems that when tracks or the racing industry "Screws up" its always the bettors who take it in the shorts.

Shit happens, I get that...but why the total lack of disclosure about what happened? Can't we at least get the facts? I can't find anything, anywhere, detailing what happened.

I don't know what happened here, but it seems to me that if it was a straight "tote malfunction," the track has an agreement in place with the tote company requiring the tote company to make good for the payouts due to the malfunction. Will stay tuned; somebody dropped the ball here big time, methinks.
