Fair Meadows Tulsa - Texas-style HISA casualty?
Fair Meadows Tulsa was supposed to open their 2023 season yesterday. The entries for yesterday (and the rest of this week) are on Equibase, but no results from yesterday and no cancellation listed.
Only thing I can find online is one tweet tagging announcer John Lies lamenting that wagering on FMT will only be available in-state, which Lies affirms as a sad situation.
Looks like they may be a HISA casualty, not unlike Texas in terms of not being able to accept interstate wagering, but unlike Texas in that there is no "equine items" sales tax funding purses. So not sure how long they can operate under those conditions.

Looking ahead at the calendar, I'm wondering if Remington Park is similarly affected.

Result charts are now available on DRF. The pool totals are extremely low.

The management of horse racing at FMT seems to be really bad.
When I was handicapping Remington last year, I noticed most of the FMT races, if not all, lacked fractional times. If they can't even time the fractions of a race, how bad must they be?
Louisiana Downs, had the same problem I think. When I was trying to handicap some of their races, a lot of them did not have fractional times. My mom and dad used to love to visit Louisiana Downs back in the 1980's, my mom said it was a wonderful track back then.
Any junior in college majoring in computer science could write a fairly simple program in 4 or 5 months that could give the times based on the video recordings of a race. This isn't rocket science.
I grew up outside of Tulsa in Broken Arrow and it is shameful how poorly managed horse racing is in my old part of the country. My experience is that when management is that bad, there is usually a tremendous amount of corruption which often goes hand in hand with lots of government interference.
It is nice country with a low cost of living. If they can't make racing work there, with the low overhead, they must be truly stupid.

All races at FMT are hand timed, and seemingly from the gate best I can tell. They don't even try fractions which in my opinion is better than giving hand-timed fractions which are usually really bad.
LAD was being hand timed for a long time, but for whatever reason the track didn't tell anyone that until I brought it up and Equibase investigated and confirmed this. Luckily, they are using portable beams to time races this year and it is much better. The same is true of ASD this season.
