Yeah, right. This from the guys who couldn't grow grass in Kentucky last year.
Will the Arlington Derby at CD noe the AMAELP?

It sure sounds like the guy who takes care of the track has questions he needs to address. So my question is are things a Track Superintendent did 20 year ago exactly the same today, or has cost cutting had some creep into the overall process?

YOU are not CD.
I was not complaining, making an observation that there were no emtries.....the key was the ? at the end of the comment. On athere forum, someone talked about PPs for Wed, so I went to look.
You're the one anal enough to make it more than a comment. You could have just left your reply at That card was canceled...... and the informaion I was seeking would been there and that would have been it.

I gave you more credit than to think you didn't know that card was cancelled given the abundance of information and talk about it. I apologize and will stop assuming you know anything going forward.

So it's not ok to run a race on the track... but it's ok to run on the track if you call it a workout.

From the article:
Quote:
The two areas Ferraro pointed out that have helped curve deaths at Santa Anita included more independent eyes on the horses.
The track began to utilize multiple exams from different veterinarians. It also added spotters to watch horses train and look for anything out of the ordinary. Horses that raced at Santa Anita were subject to a five-member panel that considered when horses were entered, their work pattern, and previous races to make sure there were no red flags that indicated the horse needed to be re-examined.
What Ferraro called the most obvious, yet hardest, change to make was to limit medication in racing. CHRB research at the time showed that nine out of every 10 fatal breakdowns occurred in horses that had pre-existing injuries.
Ferraro said when they moved pre-race medication allowances back to 48 hours before a race, it “made a big difference right away.” Ferraro is also against the use of intra-articular injections, which are administered into the open space between the bones in the joint capsule. The process is often used to give horses anti-inflammatory medication that reduces pain and increases range of motion.
|
Quote:
Since implementing its rule changes, Santa Anita had single digit racing deaths in 2020 (6), 2021 (9) and 2022 (4), according to the Equine Injury Database. Last year, that meant only 0.63 fatalities per 1,000 starts.
|
Fyi, at 0.63 fatalities per 1,000 starts, last year's Santa Anita numbers are right in line with Hong Kong's long term fatality stats.

running less only creates more breakdowns.
the problem is very simple, some trainers tap every single joint the horse has, they use bute and banamine injections. get rid of those things and i promise you the breakdowns will be cut by half or more.
the other thing that erks me is this synthetic surface. there are lots of horses that screw up their rear ends on the stuff that you don't hear about. they lay the horses off for 6 months and they tend to lose their speed.
