So what you're saying is, an entity with power (like this high school) can just ban something for no good reason.
Let's say this particular high school board is filled with Holocaust deniers. Let's say that's the real reason why they banned this book. Maybe they think it's filled with DISINFORMATION or MISINFORMATION.
But because they have the POWER, they can just ban it, even if it is completely unjustified.
Kind of like the far-left these days. Banning anything and everything that goes against their particular brand of insane ideology. Labeling it as DISINFORMATION or MISINFORMATION. Slamming and "cancelling" highly credentialed scientists and virologists and doctors as EXTREME FRINGE....
Funny.
You're upset over an unjustified banning. You think there is a CONSPIRACY THEORY afoot (after all, you said "That is not why the school board banned this book.")
Are you a nutty conspiracy theorist mostpost?

What does that even mean. In this case, Orwelllian refers not to the author and his novels warning of government tyranny. It refers to the events which took place in those novels. Banning books, propaganda and lies, scapegoating minority populations, forever wars.
There can be no Orwellian in a free society.

Like the Biden admin saying there are no open borders in the USA when the available evidence points exactly in the opposite direction, for example?
Or spouting propaganda that the Wuhan lab leak theory is misinformation and disinformation and cancelling anyone who dares say otherwise during the first year or so of the pandemic?

Do you even realize the immense disconnect between this post and your first? Your first post was mocking the “Liberal “ author for getting his book banned. You practically gave the school board a standing ovation, merely because that banned a book written by a “Liberal” author.
Then you compare this to efforts to label Covid misinformation and ban it from social media. The two are not remotely similar.
COVID disinformation and misinformation-and that is exactly what it is-endangers everyone and spreads long before it can be corrected. It is spread by crackpot, discredited pseudo experts, and proven false, by numerous, independent, verifiable public studies.

Wow, you have the reading comprehension of a retired mail carrier.
That isn't at ALL the point of this thread.
The point of this thread was THAT I AGREED WITH THE AUTHOR OF MAUS - IT WAS ORWELLIAN TO BAN HIS BOOK, but it's ****ING HILARIOUS how LIBERALS cry ORWELLIAN when THEY GET BANNED.
At the same time, when the far-left bans conservatives or TRUMP or ANYONE REALLY (especially on the right, or especially anyone that goes against the COVID ORTHODOXY), then all of a sudden, it's NOT ORWELLIAN??? Where's the cries of ORWELLIAN from Art Spiegelman concerning all the other banning and cancelling that's gone on for the past 4-5 years?
THAT WAS THE POINT, MORON

First, in the middle of a pandemic that was taking a severe toll on New Yorkers, he wrote a book and got a huge advance. He should have waited until he was out of office, because that was a cheesy thing to do, trying to profit off of a tragic event. And the book was supposed to show how great a job he did but NY had the highest death rate in the country at that time.
But then came the story that his administration seemed to be lying about the number of people who passed in the nursing homes. Funny how that story seems to have gone away, isn't it?
That was the straw that broke the camel's back. All of a sudden, some woman who always praised him publicly came out and said that he touched her at a party. This woman had previously said how great he was for working women, and that was in a tweet that came after the alleged party.
There's a lot more to the story but the bottom line is, yes, they do eat their own. They took out Cuomo.

I have a relative that claims to be “connected” in NY State
He says more than one “family members” dear mother died of Covid in a nursing home. Suddenly things changed……..

After a book wins a Pulitzer Prize, it gets a bit of attention. It has sold more than 200,000 for sure.

I’m not sure I get the uproar. This book is not getting banned. It’s being removed from the curriculum of a school and likely replaced by another one that teaches about the holocaust in a way the board feels is a more age appropriate. Maybe by some standards, “age appropriate” in this case seems a bit conservative, but in other places demonic seems to be the standard for kids. IMHO, a little reversal is probably in order even if a few people overshoot.
