For my own betting this is exactly where I am most comfortable. The problem with lower class horses, for me, is the constant changing of distance and track conditions coupled with whether the horse has any courage/long term winning ability. At least in the higher grades I have various class yardsticks to compare performances against whereas in a maiden race I am not sure of the ability of the field as well as in graded races.
Sticking to better class races is still a difficult path just the same. It is as has been said - it's a personal preference.
