Rocket Can could not do it in the Arkansas Derby today

Was up near the pacesetters then stalled heading into the turn and in the stretch where he made a quick move to battle for the 3rd spot

Traffic did not help him at all

Oh well I see it as a good pick bad trip here so making it positive over negative

I got tunnel vision there with Rocket Can when the tough J/T combo with a trip over the surface was sitting there at 9/2. Oops. Won enough elsewhere to cover next week's bets. Not sure what to think of the result when I see the top 5 all appear to have pulled a final 3/8th in under 37.8. Either the track was dialed in or this really was a classy field. I'm not fully buying the class yet. Will see what the figure makers come up with. Not in love with Angel but it fits the old Stanley Caris angles so cannot ignore him next month either. The 9 is a Buckpasser-x if you follow those. Not shocked in hindsight it hit the board but tough to play on paper.

Angel of Empire proved his Risen Star wasn't a fluke. Pretty well dominated as the other 'class' horses simply didn't show up. 4th choice and nearly 5/1. The value play of the day.

I guess Reincarnate and Rocket Can kind of ran 'nice' again, but just not top level horses at this point in time.

My smart ass horse ran last.

Forte got a 98 Beyer at Gulfstream and my HumNums say Angel Of Empire should have about the same number, maybe a point or two faster.

i had high hopes for many in here. but things really didn't turn out in the best way.

angel should be undervalued in the derby as well. bettors will probably look elsewhere like they've always done. not that much to deduce or get really excited about other than he won.
