he Meadowlands Racetrack has cancelled its six-race Thoroughbred card scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 25. With heavy rains rolling into the Garden State Thursday morning, and the expectation of continued rains throughout the day and evening, the all-turf card was called off.
The Monmouth-at-Meadowlands meet will continue in East Rutherford on Friday, Sept. 26 – first post 7 p.m.

Ok, thanks for the info. I went directly to their website's racing calendar for both Med and MTH and both show no racing scheduled for today. Things can and do change I guess.

Or, they're very good at updating their calendars.

I can assure you there was racing scheduled for that day.

The calendars haven't been updated, but I did see the info on TVG. I went to Monmouth today to get my fill, great day today in the NJ area.

I am virtually certain, a couple of weeks ago, that very calendar on their website had them colored in red and racing on the 25th. They updated the calendar immediately after they cancelled.

They were scheduled to race every Thursday and Friday in September.

Serves them right for having an all-turf card.

Only a California track during the summer months - when there is absolutely zero chance of rain due to the state's Mediterranean climate - should ever put on an all-turf card.

Yet stupidity seems to be par for the course over there in Jersey: A few years ago, Monmouth held an "Irish Appreciation Day" on July 12th, which is the date the Ulster Protestants commemorate their 1690 military victory over the Irish Catholics! What were they thinking? And this fiasco is really no better.

Pretty sure they knew the risks going in, this isn't the first year this has been done.

Correct.
I believe the reason for no dirt racing is the cost to install and maintain the surface for what is a short meet.
Actually, it's a shame. I remember the Meadowlands Thoroughbred meets to be of high quality.
Lots of graded stakes and overnights. Good mix of NJ outfits with NY guys shipping over and of courser many goof NJ riders mixed in with some top NY jockeys that didn't mind riding at night after days over in NY.

So you're saying they should close Kentucky Downs?

I was there for all of them.
Seattle Slew got beat by Dr Patches.
There were 4 good events on their calendar.
The Paterson Hcap. Meadowlands Cup. Rutgers H Cap for 3 yo's up 11 f Turf and the Queen Charlotte for fillies/ mares at the same distance. They had two very good 2yo stakes.
The Gardenia for fillies and The Young America for colts. Both at 1 1/16th miles.
They had the Ballantyne Scotch Classic which attracted big fields. John Henry as a 8 or 9 year old....Good times getting to see these great horses race in my back yard.
EDIT....Forgot the Pegasus stakes...
Winners included, Summing, Hail Bold King, Skip Trial, Danzig Connection, Cryptoclearance,
