Some of these colts hail from some famous female families.

Favorite RISK TAKING comes from a Phipps family, counting CON GAME (dam of SEEKING THE GOLD and FAST PLAY) as his 4th dam. The 3rd dam produced the very good turf 3yo KING CUGAT. SURVIVALIST won the Gotham and was 2nd in the Wood Memorial (about 20 lengths back) to Bellamy Road.

DYNAMIC ONE is actually still part owned by the Phipps stable and has the great PERSONAL ENSIGN as the 4th dam (never mind MY FLAG and STORM FLAG FLYING as the 3rd and 2nd dams). Others from the family include good turf colts MR SPEAKER, PARADING, and INTERACTIF. Distant relative TITLE READY just ran last in the Dubai World Cup.

PREVALENCE has BC Sprint winner DESERT STORMER as the 3rd dam. Same family as the versatile Grade 1 mare BETTER LUCKY.

CANDY MAN ROCKET hails from the COURTLY DEE (4th dam), one of the most significant and productive broodmares in the history of North American racing. The branch he's from isn't particularly strong but this family is responsible for the great Euro stallion GREEN DESERT, 1984 KY Derby favored filly ALTHEA, ARCH, COVFEFE, BAYERN, and TWINING among countless others.

WEYBURN has the formidable trio MAPLEJINSKY-GOLD BEAUTY-STICK TO BEAUTY as his 3rd-4th-5th dams. DAYJUR, SKY BEAUTY, PLEASANT HOME, COUNTRY HIDEAWAY, TALE OF EKATI, THE PRIME MINISTER, PINE ISLAND, and POINT OF ENTRY.

I ended up keying both and in some different types of wagers, but 'saved' money by excluding the long shots from the exacta.

Any horse that goes in the Derby from this race will be an easy toss from the superfecta. Just an awful field.

Crowded Trade can make noise in the Woody Stephens. Turf on the back burner, too.

Candy Man Rocket should cut back also but he stopped badly again after making a decent middle move (while caught wide throughout). Something might be amiss.

After Maggie said the 1 did not look good I went with the 5. Tough beat.
