I used to work at Garden State Park and worked there from 1985 until it closed in 2001. I worked in the jock's room the last few years and got friendly with a bunch of the female riders and at the time I was doing another website (that is is on heavy metal) and around the last year the track was open I searched the internet and discovered there was nothing on there about female riders. Now after the track closed I still wanted to be involved in racing somehow so I started up a Yahoo Geocities page figuring I could interview a few of the local riders as I live in NJ. At that time if a certain amount of people went on the page it shut down for the day. i started getting pissed so I brought the domain
www.femalejockeys.com and off I went. I few months later I started working at Philadelphia Park (still there today) and that made it easier to get interviews. I also started visiting other tracks when I went on vacation over the various summers and stuff and the site just grew from there. Now of course it is easy with Facebook and stuff to contact riders and now all the interviews are done through email which doesn't take up a lot of my time and stuff. I have a nice mailing list and also promote the site on here and various groups and stuff on Facebook.
I am also a fan of the sport of horse racing so it is just a fan site and trust me I hate all the cheating and crap that goes on in the sport today.
