If they did this for real they would have the highest handle in the country, even with the short fields, then the purses would go up and the fields would get bigger, and the handle would be even higher.

The serious side of this is that if such a thing were actually implemented, within a year, two at the most, mutual handle would double as players came back to California in droves. Perhaps this funny but serious April Fool joke should be forwarded to the CHRB, TOC, and other racing officials.

I'm not sure the handle would go up as much as people expected. Horseplayers are creatures of habit and people who have left So Cal to learn another circuit arent going to 'drop everything' and go back to So Cal. There's a long learning curve to become great at one place, a lot of bettors aren't in the 'switching tracks at a whim' business.

So Cal lost some bettors that they will never get back.
