Very good study that reverses some of the old ideas about that phase of our lives. i. e. having a little extra weight is a good thing in that age group.

I enjoyed the video. Thanks for posting it. That show was over 6 years old and I wonder what further updated findings have been. Interesting that they mentioned weight. They said a normal weight or slightly above normal weight was better than skinny. That is because as you age you lose muscle mass quickly so maybe the exercise that they did was delaying or helping that. I would guess that's because muscle weighs more than fat. There are not a lot of obese elderly people of any age. That was not a recommendation to gain fat. I was very interested in the memory loss examples and studies. Hopefully, we who handicap horses, can delay onset of dementia and keep our faculties well into our advanced years and still enjoy what we do.

I read of a study of nuns from the Great Lakes area. All were teachers and to aid in a study of geriatrics, each donated their body to science...They found that these women (ACTIVE teachers well into their 90's) had much denser masses of tissue in their brains.....The reason given was they never stopped learning and teaching as many other studies have found.

The brain can be like a big muscle: exercise makes it last longer

I don' t think this show was 6 years old, but they used this newest version as COMPARISON to where these individuals were the last time they viewed their progress.

Whether we horseplayers will be able to still enjoy what we do well into our advanced years will also depend on whether we are able to keep hold of at least some of our money until then. No easy task...

According to the study a little caffeine and booze are good for you.

There doesn't seem to be any smily for booze.
