3 months in the slammer, 3 months in a half-way house, and 4.5 years of probation for the former Mr. Stephanie Beattie.

3 months in prison doesn't seem like much, considering he took liberties for 4 years according to the article. The punishment doesn't fit the crime as he also admitted he was aware of the rules and chose to break them and conceal what he was doing.
Under a plea agreement he entered into last December, Wells admitted that he orally or by hypodermic injection illegally administered drugs to horses he trained and raced to give him and his horses an advantage in races. He also admitted that he was fully aware it was in violation of racing rules and regulations. Wells also said efforts were made to conceal this activity from the public and the Pennsylvania Horse Racing Commission

no doubt. Some white collar criminals get YEARS in the slammer. But, its horse racing, always been a slap on the wrist kinda sport.

Lifetime ban is the minimum he should get.

Great point SRU. Its why people outside of the game fail to take horse racing seriously and could care less if the game fails.

"Racing" needs to worry less about what outsiders think and worry more about their customer base and what they think because a lot of "new fans" come thru the turnstiles when current customers introduce them to the sport.

Those white collar criminals tend to steal 10's of millions of dollars. Mr. Wells got chump change by comparison.

What he got isn't the entire picture...its the money he essentially "Stole" from one segment of bettors and gave to another.
"ROBBIN" Hood if you will.

The older I get, the more I'm in favor of execution for anyone who cheats in financial markets.
