Can You Identify This Red Sox Player?

HE WOULD PLAY FOR FOUR TEAMS…A DOZEN YEARS;
HIS INJURIES…THEY BROUGHT HIS FANS TEARS.

GREW UP NOT FAR FROM SALUKI-LAND;
AS A PITCHER HE TRIED HIS HAND.

HE WAS BORN ON A RIDGE…OR WAS IT A BORO;
COUNT ON HIM TO BE MOST THOROUGH.

SO THIN…REMINDED ONE OF “THE SPLINTER”:
OH, COULD HIT’EM INTO THE HINTER.

A COLLAPSED LUNG…ULCER AND FRACTURED SKULL;
WHAT HIS CAREER MIGHT HAVE BEEN…WE CAN ONLY MULL.

HE STARTED WITH “THE TRIBE”…FINISHED UP WITH THE “STROS”;
HIS INJURIES WOULD PROVE HIS MOST MENACING FOE.
