Teach’s “Top Ten” to a Patriots Victory over the Chargers.

10. The Patriots' mystique. It was like, years ago, the Red Sox walking into Yankee Stadium. "The House the Ruth Built." Gillette, "The House that Brady and Belichick Built" does have an aura to it. The Patriots are 8-0 at "The Razor". The boistrous fans can be a motivating force. "The 12th Man."

9. The weather. "Baby, it's cold outside." In the 20’s. The Patriots practice outside. The Chargers practice in 60-degree weather. It can be a shock to your system, whatever one says. Getting acclimated. The mind may say one thing, but the parts may not perform quite as well. You can throw into the weather equation the “travel factor”. When it’s 1 o’clock in Foxboro, it’s 10 a.m. in LA.

8.The Patriots secondary must prevent the long strike. This game could come down to one or two key plays. It shapes up as a "tug o' war." The fewest mistakes, e.g., penalties, fumbles, interceptions, etc. could be the difference-maker.

7. Ryan Allen must make strategic punts; he needs to pin the Chargers kick-returners along the sidelines, or if need be, effecrtively, with distance, punt the ball out-of-bounds. As with golf ball-strike, football-kicking can be a matter of inches.

6.Stephen Gostkowski must make his extra points and field goals, and also kick the football into and out of the end zone. The Patriots special-teams need to come up big.

5. Julian Edelman, although “beaten up,” must make those tough catches in traffic.

4. Rob Gronkowski. “Gronk” has had his physical woes, but he must overcome adversity for his possible last go-around.

3. The Patriots defensive line must pressure Phillip Rivers. Make him throw. Take away the Chargers run-game. Make the Chargers predictable. What is the status of – injured knee – Melvin Gordon? If he is not up to his best, that could make all the difference in the world. Make the Chargers come from behind. You may remember “Air Coryell with Dan Fouts”. If the Patriots can turn it into “Air Lynn with Philip Rivers,” the Pats can win.

2. Sony Michel. He must have an excellent day running the football…and possibly catching it. When the Patriopts rush for more than 100 yards they’re 9-0. When they rush for less than the century mark, they’re 2-5. The Patriots must establish the run! Rex Burkhead and James White must do their share so that the Chargers can't focus on Michel.

1. Tom Brady. This may be his “last hurrah”. I know he says he’s coming back, but… Speaking of Brady, “Tom Terrific” is no threat to run. The Chargers know that. The Patriots offensive line must keep the pocket “clean”. The watchword should be “Protect The Pocket, Protect Brady." Joey Bosa and Melvin Ingram can put a lot of pressure on the quarterback, just ask the Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson.
