Question Solution? - Pages that are slow to load, occasional 'lag'

Some pages that I visit (not PA) are slow to load.

An example would be: http://www.equibase.com/premium/eqbR...dar.cfm?SAP=TN

This page has search boxes, and various links...
It takes a few seconds to load after I hit refresh. Sometimes the text in the search boxes lag (especially, but not always limited to while loading)...

The problem happens in a wide variety of pages.

I'm pretty sure that the culprit is the Ads.

Now, my internet speed is relatively 'fast' (19down 6up as I make this post).

What I'm wondering, is whether the weak link is just 'poor' page design, or whether the weak link is in my laptop's capabilities?, or whether the weak link is strictly internet speed related.

I'm thinking that my laptop is too slow, but I don't want to invest in a faster device, if the culprit is poor page design.

I know that I can just wait a few seconds each time I click a link, or wait for each letter, if text is lagging, but this adds up over hundreds of races and searches a day. When I'm at my most productive, and even attempting to multi-task, - I find myself patiently waiting for these responses. I'd much prefer to be able to have somewhat 'instant' response.

Do I need a faster device? Will an 'iPad' be fast enough? Any recommendations?

see below

That's a relative question. It depends on your needs. A broadband speed nowadays is defined as 25mbps download and 3 mbps upload. A connection around these speeds should satisfy the needs of almost anyone nowadays, provided that it is a good quality connection with little or no interruptions.

Also have you cleaned out your cache files ? not doing so could slow you
down also.

That page was "a little slow" on my 100mb down connection. The ads were definitely slowest in the sense that they came down last. Still the entire process took only 6-7 seconds.

How long does it take for that page to load on your connection?

Also, having lots of cookies will slow your load time as well.

Finally, I'd do a malware sweep. If you're loaded with malware, it could really tax your system.

That's about what it takes on mine. I try to type the address to the .pdf that I want, in order to bypass the web page.

It's not bad if I'm casually browsing a site, but if I am muti-tasking, those seconds start to add up.

What do you use to sweep malware?

Personally, I like downloading Spybot Search and Destroy when I need it. I also use the free version of Malwarebytes.

But neither actually reside on my machine except when I've decided to do a run.

And, while we're on the topic of spyware/malware, anybody who surfs porn on a regular basis WILL periodically get SOMETHING.

At the very least it is highly likely that such practice will at least lead to slowdowns.

just downloaded , scanned (clean ), and uninstalled Malewarebytes...

Thanks for the help from everyone who answered.

I'm going to look at some faster laptops and/or iPads, and look at re-organizing my password sites so that I don't always have 2 browsers (chrome, Edge) running at the same time.

I guess some sites are just bogged down with slow-loading ads, but I could make some improvements.

I use FF 63.0.2 and also use uBlock Origin ad blocker. That page and most EQB pages load instantaneously for me.

One more thing you might try is to replace the wireless card in the laptop. Actually, I would disable it and add a USB dongle wifi. They're pretty cheap.

Wireless USB wifi

I mean like $15 cheap.

Disable the one on your system and give one of these a try.

Spybot has (or at least used to have) an option to just run on demand.

Spybot Free Edition is an on-demand anti-spyware scanner.
