2nd:
Senza Fina- this is a 6 furlong race with absolutely no speed entered. A similar race produced longshot winner Pat the Bear on Sunday. Pat the Bear had some pace ratings which were better than the rest of the field, which may have been the decisive factor. Here, Senza Fina has good pace numbers while the rest of the field doesn't. She's also taking a big drop in class.
3rd:
Stylistic- looks completely obvious here. He has a huge advantage in the speed figures, and most of this field looks completely moribund. He has a fast workout over the course and may go wire to wire.
4th:
Golden Bayers- this race is full of horses making suspicious class drops, including
and
. In contrast, this horse looks like he is dropping to the proper level, and got a positive clocker's report on his last workout. He's also lightly raced in a field full of proven losers. He'll pay a decent price and has enough positives to justify a bet.
7th:
Enchanting Lady- her last race was MUCH better than looked, as she got caught in a suicidal speed duel and actually did not run badly. Here, she's the fastest horse in the field and should get clear. She's also been working really well for Baffert.
8th:
Bird E House- he's a big longshot, but he has had excuses in his last several races. In his last race, he got completely shut off on the far turn in a starter allowance against a strong field and still managed to run a very good sustained pace figure, indicative of a very good effort in a grass race. This is essentially a class drop and he owns a win over the Del Mar turf course. He's going to be 20 to 1 and he's easily worth the price.
