The farm
Eventually the States are gonna have to get together and fix this. There won't be anything left to give away.

From KY, very close to Turfway...
Toyota is closing its Erlanger headquarters and moving almost 1,600 jobs out of Northern Kentucky as part of a nationwide consolidation of the company's operations.
Company officials gathered employees at its Erlanger offices Monday afternoon to tell them the news. All workers there will be offered jobs either at Toyota's new headquarters in Plano, Texas, or at an expanded technical center in Michigan.
A few hundred engineers also may move to the company's manufacturing plant in Georgetown, Ky., where more than 7,000 people now work.

Check out the numbers
The National Center for Policy Analysis (NCPA) ran a few scenarios comparing the after-tax salaries in various capacities and here’s how the numbers worked out:
"A 30-year old single California renter earning $75,000 annually and could gain an additional $14,909 in discretionary income by moving to Texas; if saved and invested this would amount to $1,513,727 over her lifetime."

But he would still have to in Texas rather CA. A lot of people would not want to do that for 15k more a year.

Yeah, a young single guy wouldn't want to live in Dallas. Hah. A married guy with kids wouldn't want a house 2x the size of his house in Cali for the same price. Texas is a living hell. Yeah.

The $197 million was in incentives over 20 years, and the return is much greater. The headquarters, which includes about 1,275 jobs, may generate $527 million a year in revenue for the state, said Matt Kisber, commissioner of Tennessee's Economic and Community Development Department, in an interview yesterday. ``If I can invest $1 and get back $2.50, I'm going to do it every time.''
As for the Toyota, Texas deal, try $10,000 pr job. http://online.wsj.com/news/articles/...29672654374090

"Hiring ... Would Drive Up Household Incomes And Generate More Tax Revenue."
"Hiring, especially of managers and executives, would drive up household income and generate more tax revenue for Plano and nearby communities. One criterion for Toyota receiving a $40 million grant from the Texas Enterprise Fund is that new jobs [B]must be paid above the county average." [b]

40 million incentive from Texas. Under 10k a job. That's cheap as hell

I was watching the PGA tournament last weekend and they commented that the winner had just moved from Cali to Texas along with some other young pro golfers. Makes sense if a person earning $75K per year can add $14K to their discretionary income imagine if your income was in the millions? You couldn't afford not to move

at 10K a job, I wonder why Tenn didn't out bid Texas. They have gone a lot higher in the past.

Toyota actually has come out and informed the losers (including Dallas) that Plano was chosen due to the school district rating.
Dallas Schools are in turmoil right now and the infighting just got ratcheted up a notch on this news

It is certainly that way with some people I know. I'm amazed how much people will pay for moderate weather. 837 square foot apartments are going for 300k.
Me - I could easily do without the traffic, the crowds, and the expense.

Wow, lots of heat but little light. This will require more than 5-10 minutes of study to get to the core issues. Money, control, power and what appears to be a failing/failed education system.
Looks like mid-term elections in Dallas are going to be intense for a number of reasons.
