When someone no longer works for the Federal Government his or her Security Clearance should be cancelled the day they leave employment.
Some even worked for Media companies and expected to keep their Clearance. That's madness.

The reason for letting them keep it is in case they get called back in to review previous briefings, meetings, testimony, etc.
It's not like they can just walk into Langley and start looking up intelligence secrets.
I give zero crap about the issue but there is a rationale for letting them keep it.

If they are ever needed to come back for a review, they don't need a clearance.
JUst ask HILLARY to email them whatever notes they need.

Say you're working with a bunch of different rebel groups in Syria and you're trying to figure out which ones to back at the moment. Now say Brennan oversaw a lot of intelligence operations on those same groups.
You'd want his opinion... and yes... he would need security clearance.
But hey way to play the...

There's a rationale for everything that people do.
Keeping security clearance after leaving the government is simply a stupid practice , no matter the reason behind it.

Except the exact reason I just gave you.
I run a CIA station in Southeast Asia but just recently retired. My replacement wants to pick my brain about some recent developments...
