Urban Meyer Leaving Florida

Must be a little more to the story. I wish him the best.

Meyer to coach final game at Sugar Bowl

"I have given my heart and soul to coaching college football and mentoring young men for the last 24-plus years and I have dedicated most of my waking moments the last five years to the Gator football program," Meyer, 45, said in statement. "I have ignored my health for years, but recent developments have forced me to reevaluate my priorities of faith and family.

Is this a joke? (confused)

If not, my best wishes to the guy. Something has to be terribly wrong for him to come to this decision at the time he made it public.

after reading the article twice and letting it sink in....

who coaches Fla nex year? I bet Charlie Strong is kicking hisownself right about now. Whoever is named HC is inheriting a load of talent.

My evil twin is telling me it'd be a sick kind of fun if Saban jumped to Florida... My good twin thinks the same way, too

And, where does Meyer coach in 2011. He's a super competitive type, sitting out would kill him quicker than anything (assuming nothing terminal is going on, and I hope that's not the case).

Best wishes to the guy. This had to be a really tough choice for him

I find it pretty troubling that a 44YO guy who is making $4M a year, has won the last 2 national championships, is adored by the Gator Nation, lives in a nice year-round warm climate, and looks very healthy can succumb to stress-related heart problems that force him from his job. I think it is the constant "win at all costs" mentality that exists in our society and now has driven him from work he probably loves. I'm not a Florida/Meyer fan, but this kind of thing shouldn't go unnoticed, but it will...

Bingo. Also had he destroyed Bama in the sec title game and been playing for the title would we be having this conversation? If Tebow had another year of eligibility would we be having this conversation?

I find all of this "talking smack" when someone has health issues a little a bit in bad taste. Grow up!

Some of you guys act as if Florida can't recruit another good QB....Funny stuff.

Brantley will do just fine next yr. In 2006 when he verbally committed to TEXAS we thought we had hit the jackpot. On film he looked like Namath when he was at Bama (Elway with healthy legs for you younger folk). Kid was named nat'l HS player of the yr by one publication.

Was really sorry to see him decide of Fla instead, I think he'll be the best QB that conference has in the next two years.

Btw, (1) Meyer's record the past 2 years is 25-2, not exactly something to panic over.....and (2) Pete Carroll said in his post game interview last nite (espn) that Meyer looked "sickly" on the recruiting trail & coaches Pete spoke with noticed it as well. Something isn't right with the guy's health.

Urban Meyer doing his Clash impression....should I stay or should I go? AP reporting he isn't resigning; just taking an indefinite leave.

Whats really funny is your inference that he can just go get another Tebow off the QB tree.

If I thought the man had real health issues I certainly would not "talk smack" about it.If you believe it fine, I do not. Again I'll ask, if the Gators had destroyed Bama instead of being destroyed would we be having this conversation?I think not.
