Cinco-fecta

The board approved a new wager to be offered at the upcoming Santa Anita meet. To win, a bettor must select the top five finishers in a race in order. It will carry over on days when it is not hit.

Whatever it's called, I don't see myself playing it.

Would rather have seen a fiftycentfinalpickfive.

Does anybody know if there is a minimum field size on a race to offer this wager?

For the curious,

5-horse fields = 120 Combinations
6-horse fields = 720 Combinations
7-horse fields = 2,520 Combinations
8-horse fields = 6,720 Combinations
9-horse fileds = 15,120 Combinations
10-horse fields = 30,240 Combinations
11-horse fields = 55,440 Combinations
12-horse fields = 95,040 Combinations
13-horse fields = 154,440 Combinations
14-horse fields = 240,240 Combinations

Full-gate Ky Derby = 1,860,480 Combinations.

I posit that this will theoretically be easier to hit than a Pick-6. A Pick-6 sequence with six 7-horse fields would have 117,649 combinations which is more than the number of cinqofecta combinations in a 12-horse race.

If the cinqofecta pool size reaches a typical SoCal pick-4/-6 size, then I think that there would actually be less carryovers than with the pick-6.

Quintfecta made sense to me, although it won't be Trifecta-Quadfecta-Quintfecta.

But since 4 is a Superfecta, 5 could be a Greatfecta.

I like some of the other, simpiler names some of you have listed above. Frankly, all this '-ecta' & '-acta' stuff probably scares newbies (not that newbies should be 5 layer exotics!).

Top 5 might be another possiblity

But Cinco has now gotten widestread knowledge as being 5 than decades ago. Cincofecta might fly.

In the rare cases that I have the entire field in order, I jokingly call them 'Godfectas'. Sometimes get that in a 6 horse field (720 possible orders) and extremely rare in just a 7 horse field (5,040 possibe orders.)

Hey, maybe the should call the 5 layer exotic what people will yell if they hit it: the Holy $hit!

Not to confuse it with Motel 6 or Super 8, but I vote for the Super5!! All they have to do is make sure it's a dime minimum and it will be successful! (not too many carryovers that way, though)

A friend and I noticed this ridiculous trend a few years back when they started up w superfectas, and realized it was only a matter of time(to pick the whole field in order)before it got even sillier.

(The password is ..... 'Omnifecta')
