Gary Stevens leaving TVG
This certainly is a surprising development. The Bloodhorse story--posted below-- just announces the move, doesn't really get into any specifics. Seems to me like he had enough of the ragtag TVG crew, or he's getting a monster raise.

Hall of Fame jockey Gary Stevens has reached an agreement with HorseRacing TV to serve as an on-air analyst, the network announced Nov. 7.

Frankly I didn't think he added much to the TVG broadcasts.
Just my opinion but he didn't seem that sharp, and was continuously mispronouncing names. I found a bit annoying how he would say, eeeh, or aaah, about four times for every sentence.

I seriously doubt it has anything to do with a monster raise given the current state of Magna. Does anyone actually care who is doing these shows when they tune in?

I agree 78. But I still want to find out the juicy details of his departure. Did he leap on top of the anchor desk and slug Shrupp, or crack a bottle of beer on Lyons' head. Maybe chased after Christina during a commercial!!!

I actually enjoy Gary's commentary.
And I really like the HRTV group over the TVG group.
Anyone but Caruthers.

As long as HRTV remains shutoff from the larger curcuits in New York and California , who cares who goes there !!!

G.Stevens~ See 'Ya!
Gary's bashing of longtime TVG guest TOM AMOSS may have been the final straw. His friendship with producer AMY of NBC horseracing days (remember them?) could have been a factor as well. Personally it seemed like he was mailing it in half the time on TVG; he always screwed right after the feature race of the day, leaving the rest of the TVG crew to mop up for the final race.
Gary gave up his day job as Nakatani's agent after a real short run, now he splits from TVG; Hope HRTV has a replacement handy, just in case!
Good Luck to him. He never added much beyond his reputation while working for TVG; I'll take Frank Lyons, Tom Amoss, or Jill Byrne on TVG over him anyday for real 'horseflesh insight'!- Bob www.myspace.com/bobgrant3

stevens
Personally I think Gary Stevens is an ass! I got to meet him one time and he's just a jerk, and could care less about the fans.
No HRTV in Lexington, thats right, why, I don't know either.
Thoughts on TVG - Only guy I like is Todd Schrupp, (got to meet him too) , he's the "dumb schlub" like you or me.

I somewhat agree with this statement.
I don't know how analysts like Simon Bray, Rich Perloff, or Greg whatever are even allowed the TVG checkmarks. I could out handicap most of these guys all day long.

You don't say to your fellow co-host Thomas Amoss that his perpective is just pure idiotic on national TV and show this degree of disrespect.
